what lube to use?

Okay it's time to freshen up the drive train on my 84 f250 project truck, and I'm not 100% certain what to use as fas as gear case oil.
I am assuming 80/90 in the differentials and manual tranny, and mercon in the transfer case?

Anyone feel free to setme straight on this if I am mistaken! thank you...Kevin

Experts in this catagory seem in short supply, but im currently using Valvoline Durablend 80w-90 API GL5 in my differential.

When my clutch died I had them replace the bearings, synchronizers in my 4 speed (T19), and a new pto pump. They filled it with 20w-50 yes 20w-50 stating to me that the heavy stuff holds to much heat. I really dont know but this truck center has a good of a reputation as any around, and my new clutch is a beast cut down to fit from a mack truck (keep in mind that my truck is a rollback tow truck). I wouldnt recommend 20w-50 but would try to stay on the lighter side, because lighter oil dispenses heat better.

Thanks for the help, I wasn't coming up with much doing a search. And the owners manual has seemed to go AWOL.

The transfer case takes dexron 2 ATF as recommended by the owner's manual.

you asked what lube to use, he suggests KY jell (Personal lubricant), anyway you could also go synthetic or use lucas in the diffs, I think royal purple even claims mpg increases by changing diff fluid

I was thinking about going with synthetic. I know it made one heck of a differance when I went with synthetic motor oil in my 01 diesel.

heh, heh 86sixBANGER is asking about LUBE again heh heh Anyway, I used lucas in the rear diff on my cherokee since they have an issue with carrier bgs, and I had no issue after a couple years so it must be good, right? If I were changing and the few extra$$ werent a problem I'd go ahead with the synthetic... couldn't hurt, might help

hahaaahahahah yes you guys are funny.

Always wanted to use that smiley party one.
So you mean you used lucas additive in your diff or lucas makes a whole single oil that is all you put in there? I heard that you can put lucas additive in your tranny and it's good for it. Is it just an additive for the tranny, and if so, does it need to be used with synthetic or regular, or can it be used with both?
