6.0 oil pan change

2004 F-450 4x4 My oil pan is in bad shape from the rough Maine winters looking to change it before I loose all my oil and have to change my motor. Can anyone tell me what I will expect to get my self into. Motor mount, jacking the motor??? Thanks for any help

fibreglass tends to be somewhat brittle especially as it ages and is exposed to the level of heat of the oil. if i was going to try patching the pan i would rather use something like POR putty that is intended to bond to somewhat rusty surfaces and will be more pliable. yes if it hasn't actually started leaking yet, some treatment to seal the metal might give you a couple more years.

Just JB weld it and it will be fine......just go the the 6.0 section and thats the advice you will get....hell its only a $15K engine no big deal. Bubble gum might work too as it would be cheaper then JB weld. Just chew it extra good so its extra sticky.

no need to be sacastic. if the pan is rusting but not yet perforated or leaking, sanding it and putting a seal coat of epoxy or POR 15 is no different than painting it in the first. other than using a product that is 10 times better than the cheap crap ford uses. coarse if they used better metal this wouldn't happen nearly as often. what do you mean only 15k engine. first off the odds of the pan failing catastrophically after repair is next to nil. about all it would do is leak inspite of repair, and if you lost enough oil to lose pressure the injectors wouldn't be able to fire so it would stop running. i've heard of guys not putting the drain plug in properly and losing it at 60 mph. got another plug, filled up again and carried on, no issues

It's also a HEUI system so typically the injectors will fall off before any motor damage is done from low oil. Since we don't know the exact condition of his "bad shape", I see no reason not to bring up ideas like POR as an alternate to changing the pan. If you saw bubbling paint and surface rust on your pan would you change the pan?

YEah your right I wasnt clear, In an instance like just a surface rusting pan sanding and using POR would be a great thing to do to preserve the pan. However I have seen posts about rust HOLES, and self inflicted holes, guess thats what I was aiming towards.
