Lights behind the grille?

Just curious if anyone is running lights behind the Lariat style grille? If you are how much light are you loosing? I am wanting to put some behind because none of the lightbars to me are worth it. I think I'm going to use some 5 inch Procomp lights but we'll see. So just curious if anyone has em.

Here's my grille. I think I measured 4 inches between the cross bars. Hope that makes sense.

Clay has his running lights behind the grille but his truck is an early 99. Looks pretty good though. I like the idea myself

i been thinkin about doin something like this myself...
it just depends on ur grille. I have a 99 grill with a billet thing over it..

i was gonna try and use 2 hella 500 in there, but i dont want to be blinding people in front.. so i might use this for off road purposes not to sure yet.

Please don't take this as me being a *****, because I'm not trying to be one, I'm just giving an honest opinion. I would guess the amount of light you lose depends on how much of the light is covered up. So lets say you do run the 5" lights, lets say that the grill "lines" cover a surface area of say... 25% of the light? Then You'll probably get about 75% light projected outwards... It could be much more detailed than that. But am I on the right track? And as I'm typing this, I know it sounds like I think you don't have common sense, but really, I'm not thinking that way, just sharing what came to my mind.

And I love the front end of your truck, is that aftermarket plastic or custom Rhino Liner or what? I've always wanted to spray my entire truck in Rhino Liner, like a 1/8" of it. No rust, no dings, no waxing...

Flaw I don't think that you're being a *****. I understand what you are saying and it makes sense. I guess what I'm asking is for the people that have done this do you feel that the amount of light that does come out is helpful? Or is so much lost that it is not worth adding the lights? My lights are pretty good now but I wouldn't mind a little more.

Also Flaw I had both my bumpers and grille Line-x'd. I really like it cause its easy to clean and has held up great so far. They were chrome but I'm not a big fan.

Got a question for ya. With the lights behind the front grill, is the light beam still pointed as being an aimed beam of light. Or is the light beam somewhat defused once it passes the front grill louver.
I will say this, it looks great.
