its amazing to get that kind of mileage, i know, thats the best i've seen out of her, like i said and thats keeping my foot out of it and doing 70 mph, for some reason it gets really good gas mileage at that speed on flat ground no wind, now city mileage it has been costing me a fortune!

I've found mpg numbers are one of the biggest things people stretch the truth on. Some tell you exactly what they get hand calculated, others....well they stretch it a bit.
With all the exhaust systems I have had on my 2V V10 with the stock cat and without the stock cat I've found that mpg barely budges regardless. Matter of fact some of the best mpg I have ever got was when the truck was all stock. I have Long tube tri-y headers and y-pipe, custom tuning, K&N intake, aftermarket high flow cat and full mandrel bent exhaust with a better flowing muffler than stock and the mpg never really budged that I could see, but the power is greatly improved over stock. Of course my fairly aggressive 285s hurt mpg a little.
Maybe if you drove a nice flat highway at high altitude and baby it you could squeeze 20mpg out of a V10.

as far as the b.s., i'm sorry i estimated that mileage of 20-25 i was guessing but for those who would like to know, from my house in west jordan, ut to m friends house in malad, id is 131 miles. i did the math on how much gas i've used (its the same every time and i fill up when i get there) it takes 6 1/2 gallons. when you do the math it comes out to 20.1538. if it changes i'll be sure to give y'all the specifics

My 15.8 was at sea level, no hills and cruise at 75 with a 2,000 pound load.
I could get better, but I never run it slow and empty.

460 usually gets 9-11mpg figure its going to get about 2mpg less than a v10 on average but what always made me curious was the v10 does its work high in the rpm range vs the 460 is down low so i would think that the v10 shouldnt get much more mileage, but maybe this is why there is usually such little change in the 460s mpg when going from city-highway-towing/hauling

If you keep the rpm around 3k on the v10 the mpg's are better.
I towed about 7k and ran foot to the floor 100 miles, got 7.5mpg.
The next week I towed 11K 148 miles running half throttle or less to keep the revs down and I got 9.85.
No offense, I have a truck with one of each and I love both, but the V10 pulls much better stock to stock.

I've had a 91 F-350 cc SRW 4x4, (got pretty close to 500k ESTIMATED before I sold it) a 94 F-350 SRW Reg Cab 4x4 (240k before traded off) 89 F-250 reg cab 4x4 (******* college kid that I was put 5 inch straight stacks on it & sucked the valves out of it at 200k estimated. turned into parts for the 91 after) all with 460s & 5 speeds. The 91 was in the family since new & when Dad got it around 16 mpg. I could get around 12 driving like an a@#hole. The 89 & 94 were definitely not so great. lucky to avg 10 mpg. All 3 had 4.10 gears. I just got rid of my 95 F-150 4x4 with an E4od 351 & 3.55.s 18 hwy, 8 around the ranch. Dad had a 99 F-250 x-cab 4x4 with the V10 & auto. We bought it used with a chip & the cat removed. When Mom drove it (babied it) she got right around 20 highway. dad & I drove it (see above) we got around 18 hwy. 200k before we traded it in & not a lick of problems. I won't even discuss Dad's co truck. 05 F-250 4x4 with a 5.4 & an auto. Henry Ford is rolling over in his grave. Short story long, go with a v-10 & chip it.

Ok new here and if anyone is still reading this old thread, I hope I can get some feedback. I'm looking to tow about 9k trailer about 700 miles a few times a year. 96 Bronco with a 351w thinking of swapping that out for a 93 f250's 7,5l or a 01's ,6.2l. Not so much worrying about gas mileage but would like the comfort of knowing it's handling the weight well and has that extra kick of power. Oh the bronco has a 4" lift and 35"s

But, just my opinion, 9000 lbs is too much for a 1996 Bronco. A 1993 F-250 w/460 CID could handle it, but it's a gas guzzler.
A later model Super Duty with the 6.2L gasonline engine will pull it easily.
