Somewhere along my ridiculously long (and expensive) list of things to do to my truck is a lift and bigger tires. Right now I'm running 35's with 4.10 gears, and although I have to start out in 1st, its still pretty low with 35's. I'm curious if I run 37's if I'll need to regear or if there's anyone on here who runs tiresthat big who stayed with stock gearing. I do occasionally use my truck to tow, but rarely. Maybe once or twice a year. If I do need to regear, what do you reccommend and how much does it usually cost to do that?
X2! I don't mean to ask a dumb question, but are you sure you have 4.10's? You should be able to start out in 2nd with 35's. I have 265/70R16's which I believe are 33's and I do not need 1st gear unless I am hooked up to something or headed up a steep hill from a stand still.
I'm about 95% sure I have 4.10's... I can start out in 2nd but it's kinda sluggish. Won't do it uphill without a little finessing of the clutch. I'll have to double check in the morning... where do I look for the gear ratio?
EDIT: NM I checked. They're 4.11 limited slip. I'm sure once I put my stage 1's in 2nd won't be a problem unitl I go to 37's (or bigger?)
I think 37's would work out well with 1st gear. Towing will probably suffer, but a lifted truck probably isn't the best tow rig anyways. Related, kinda-- my syncros are worn out pretty bad... would it be cheaper to have the tranny rebuilt or to replace it? I was thinking maybe going to a 6 speed if that conversion is possible (or if it would be of any advantage). I just figure more gears can't hurt anything. Any thoughts?
I don't tow a whole lot, but I have 37's and 3.55's. I can still start off in 2nd, but usually use 1st. Yes, the ZF6 conversion is possible, but there's a fair bit involved. I just read a thread about that last week. Don't remember if it was here or not though.... I suppose what a rebuild would cost...
i have a 2000 7.3 w/38 inch tire,6 spd manual.super chip.5 inch exaust 430 gear.highway driving and towing are good.but id rather hav the 410 for more pep crusin around town
