MY1964 F100 NEEDS NEW BRAKES BAD. BUT AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT I COULD NOT SEPARATE THE WHEEL CYLINDER FROM FROM THE RUBBER LINE FROM THE STEEL LINE FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER .........
SO FINALLY WITH A LITTLE PURSUASION FROM MY FRUSTRATION I FIGURED START ANEW SO FAR I PURCHASED NEW WHEEL CYLINDERS HOSES STEEL LINE BUT IM LOOKING FOR A CHEAPER NEWER COMPATIBLE PROPORTIONING VALVE STILL USING STOCK MASTER CYLIDER ANY HELP WOULD BE STRONGLY APPRECIATED.
Probably t he best advice would be to make sure your all the parts of your front suspension and steering is in good condition. If not sure of their condition, replace the king pins and bushings, tie rod ends, etc. Have the truck aligned. Check steering box, etc. Maybe replace large front tires with smaller ones.
And make sure you retain the stock steering wheel or at least one the same diameter - we're talking leverage here. When we fossils were taught to drive "back in the day" we were told you didn't crank on the steering wheel of a stationary vehicle. If your truck 'recenters' the front axle by itself after turning a corner, that's a good indicator things are OK. Manual steering does have its advantages. Good upper body strength maintenance without the gym membership.
