Junkyard Wars!!

Who knows the best places in Texas to go scavenge parts for trucks... Ford trucks, that is.

Had a good experience?? Tell us where and who to talk to!
Had a bad experience? Please tell us where not to go!

Specifically, anyone know of a good truck parts yard in the San Antonio area??

Thanks!

Junkyard Wars!!

The only good place I know of near Fort Hood is Harold's. It is located on 183 halfway between Austin and Lampasas. There is a huge selection of trucks and they are separated by brand. He is awfully proud of his parts because he is a bit expensive.

In SA there is always Pick-N-Pull on the south side off of 16, but usually they are picked pretty clean pretty fast.

I'll have to go get my lsit of TX junkyards that I've been to and post it.

No joke about Harold's.
He is just south of Briggs, about 100 yards south.
And yes, he is PROUD of his parts, but he does have some good stuff.
I used to live in Cove.
Is County Line out of business for good?
My folks are still there, and I get up there now and again.

Yep. Harold's is nice though. Although I always seem to stop there after it rains. BEWARE, if it has rained in the area then wait a bit to go out there. The place turns into a mud swamp. I've seen his Cat's get stuck in the mud out there. My brother lost a show once too. Darn mud sucked it right off.

When it's a dry though it is a wonderful place.

For old fords go the the 'antiques' section to the far right back of the place (gotta go over the cattle guard). And a majority of the truck are in the far left back. I.e. if you want truck just go to the very back of the place and you will find them all.

Well I didn;t have as much listed as I thought I did... oh well... and it all seems to be centered around the Lampasas/Killeen area... so so much for that... but here is what I have so far. I really need to go and update all my lists...

These were just recorded away for my own use so the comments and descriptions are sorta small.

On the plus side... All this data is stored in an SQL DB which I have on my computer, so if anyone has any more junkyard info I'd be glad to add it to my DB. I'm working on a site that allows users to add/review junkyards. More for my personal use than anything else, but open to the public once I get it all locked down.

Hope these help...

jls73,

In regard to directions for Alex's:
South on 195 (aka 440, and Fort Hood Rd.) from Killeen, right (west) on Old Copperas Cove Road, right (north) on Old 440, and he is about 300-400 yards on the left.
And all the 817 area codes in that area, (Killeen, Temple, Copperas Cove, etc) are now 254.
Alex used to also rod out and recore old radiators.
Hope this is useful.

Mike

Junkyard Wars!!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I just bought a '79 F150 as a cheap daily driver. It needs a new (read cheap) front seat and seat belts. I was wondering where in the Austin area I would be able to find parts for it. Now I know.

Junkyard Wars!!

I usualy go to Harolds to. And like the others, for some reason it always ends up being right after a rain. Ya, kinda pricey, but I usualy find what I'm looking for with out much bother, and I like yanking my own parts.
