How to remove gasoline from the tank

1988 F150 4wd 302.

For reasons I won't go into here, I've got my rear tank totally disconnected from the fuel system. However, it still has a little bit of gas in it. I need to remove all the gas because the tank has a slow leak and so the truck always smells. I'm having trouble getting the gas out. I stuck a long tube into the tank through the gas cap and attached a small hand pump to the tube, but I'm unable to get the gas out.

Without dropping the tank, are there any other methods I can use to get that tank dry?

thanks

Is it fuel injected? If so, you should be able supply power to the fuel pump and attach a hose to the fuel line to run into a gas can.

If not, you can try dropping the tank and siphoning it once the tank is out- if you've already disconnected it from the fuel system it shouldn't be that hard to do.

There should be only a small amount of gas in there, but enough to still leak and smell up the truck. I don't want to go through the hassle of dropping the tank. Any alternatives are welcome....
