02 V-10 died swapped 02 7.3L Diesel in...electrical?

So this didn't happen to me, but I am looking at a truck that this happened to. might be a good deal depending on your answers.

V10 died and the guy swapped in his 7.3L...The truck runs great, except the electrical, gauges, etc.

How hard would it be, or more likely, how much time and money would it take a mechanic to rework the electrical?

Both trucks were 2002.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

On a conversion like that...dang near impossible to say. You'd just have to work out one bug at a time until you got it right.

It would take a lot of patience, for sure....

How much is he asking for it?

Maybe not such a great deal...

At this point I'd say it wouldnt be, no telling how much you'd spend trying to make it right...

Especially recently when there are so many nice trucks out there for sale, for just a few thousand dollars more.

Drop a zero from the price and I would take it.
Frankentrucks are a LOT of work to get right.

It could be something as simple as swapping the PCM and other control modules to the diesel ones. Then it could be a challenge if the wiring harnesses didn't match. Yeah, that sounds a little high with it having issues.

Lisa, I like your avatar. .357?

Yes Sir...that's my little K frame "retired" service revolver...re-spiffed just for me...complete with muzzleloader neon sights. And thanks!

Fun shooter. Not nearly as accurate as the model .29 .44 mag, but its meant as a protection piece anyhow.

LOL ...Frankentruck!

That would be a great deal if it had no problems. As far as electrical gremlins go in these trucks, it could be anything from blown fuses to the entire electrical harness being the wrong one.

It would have to have the diesel PCM in it already, or it wouldn't be running. The cluster is completely different in the diesels, so I would say it would need the wiring harness and gauge cluster out of a diesel as well. 2002/2003 should work. Can't use one from the older trucks -- they are different.

I would pass you can find another truck like that for the same or better price unless you can get him to drop the price a few K.

I think I saw that on CL a week or two ago. I personally would offer much less, maybe 6-7k. I just don't think it is worth 9k. If it had a bad v10 in it still it wouldn't be worth more than a $3-4k, I dont think throwing a used psd in makes it worth 5k more considering having to deal with the electrical issues. Now if it was swapped and everything worked perfect then maybe.

Yeah, Joe, I was just making a rough list of the components involved.

As far as the insturment cluster, I can honestly say I haven't been in the cab of a later model gasser SD. Didn't know they were different. Sounds like a visit to the parts department is in order to see what parts and wire harnesses interchange and which don't. You could get prices that way too.

The most obvious difference is the tach, but I'm sure the indicators are different as well...

OP said 6sp manual, so there would be no TC. would the V-10 not be bolted to the same ZF as the diesels.
