2004 FTE Oklahoma Chapter Rally

Awright Cigarxtc, you made me do it!

It really is a darned good idea. But it needs help to make it
reality. I don't doubt this can happen, but we need to figure
out:

When to have it...
Where to locate it (a good midpoint location)
An organizing group made up of fellow Okies
to put it all t'gether, permits, facility and all, down to the
last funnel cake and corn dog...
A media group to contact various vendors, suppliers
and local radio, TV and newspaper/Internet for advertising
and media promotion...
A charitable organization that can benefit from what we're
doing...
Live music... need I say more?
A bunch of willing participants that don't mind in the least the
reduced traffic on "the extra mile"- count me in on that one and
pass me the mop and bucket...
Everybody's ideas, suggestions and help. This ain't the work of
one person... this is Okie FTE at work!

If this is organized well and promoted as a family event and
everything is done in a topnotch fashion it will speak volumes
of good things about our organization, possibly interest and attract new members, build a good rapport with local vendors and media, develop lines of communication between members
and promote a spirit of support and sharing among us. Most of
us will finally be able to put a face to a name.

Or it'll be a nice long thread.

Let's do one or the other- spit'n'shine or converse and dine.
But first this: take a poll. How many Okie FTE'r's would actually commit to doing this, if even in a small way or "as I can"?
Be real about this. It's rough being the lone hot dog man or
mopboy...

i think it is a great idea, but what about those of us that are not f t e members because we dont have a credit card? i am game for a meet, drove my econo 250 miles to my last econo meet. i am willing to drive and willing to help all i can. obsolete ford in okc might let it happen in their parking lot. they have a few other meets there each year. might be good for a few gimme's for longest drive, door prizes and so forth. just a thought. they are about as central as you can get, but o k c can be a little rough to drive in sometimes. would it be a 1 day, 2 day, or 3 day deal. might even be able to get the ford dealers involved a little.

Jim,

You're more of an FTE'r than me. That's just a
minor detail, when I saw the chance to do it
I whined and begged the wife and she let me join
lol. That's all.

Okay guys, I am new at this and not sure how to be an FTE member, or is there such a thing? But I would love to see a bunch of Ford Freaks come out of the wood works for a fun day of BBQ'n and meeting people. Has it ever been done before and if so, how well did it work out? Anyhow, I will keep checking to see if it works out and if so, I'm there baby!

Talking Greets and welcome, Luvs

Hello Luvs

What you posted is the sum of it all. We're
a bunch of Ford freaks having fun. Whether
or not you're a "member" doesn't matter.
We are associating here in this forum, why
not in public too. It's the interaction that
counts. And, who knows? Down the road
you may think about joining Club FTE. But
don't let that stop you. I hope I get to meet
you and everybody else in this forum one fine
day. Believe me, I get autographs and I take
pictures! I like being able to put faces to names,
and that seems to be important, that and getting
the opportunity to know the people I now
electronically associate with.

Welcome to the forum! Glad you're here!

A large event sounds good, but I think we should start small with something like a "get together" at a restaurant where we can dine, view the vehicles and get to know each other better. If everyone is still interested, we could then arrange the second event with more activities and a big public gathering.

yeah, but we still need to do it in a central location. and if the interest doesnt pickup a little, well, mabey a regional meet would be more in line. this kinda happened with the econo meet, had about 30-35 people ready and willing to do it, then i think 9 showed. some think it is a special thing, like me, and some think it is stupid. i love the chance to meet other ford people and look at their trucks. i think it is a great idea even if only 4-5 people show. its not like we are doing anything besides driving around anyway, might as well drive a little farther and meet some new people.

So let's get a "show of hands" on who will come and where everyone would like to meet. I've driven to Dallas to meet other Super Duty owners, so a road trip is fine with me.

Talking Yep.

NoMo, you're right.

We need to start locally- maybe like a city or county
basis, then after we get a little better acquainted, go
from there. I nominate you to head this up.

Thumbs up

Sorry for the delayed reply. It's been a busy couple weeks. Been doing construction work at work instead of sitting in front of the 'puter.

Yep, it's a great idea. Starting out with a small get together would probably be preferred. I don't know the state as well as others, so as for location, you got me stumped. Maybe we could meet somewhere along old Route 66? (Don't know if we'll be able to find a location that will allow the 4 wheel owners room to throw some mud?)

I think keeping it a fun family event/get together would also be a good idea.

If it's not too far of a drive, I've got access to a large BBQ Grill on wheels for towing to and fro. Don't think I'd drive it to OKC though. Those that plan to attend could chip in and send a dollar or two to put towards the burgers, dogs, buns, chips and sodas? Each family/group/carload could also bring one side dish for better food selection.

As for the date, I see by the calendar of events in Hemmings Motor News and FTE that there is not a lot of events scheduled in May or June 2004. April would probably be a wet and cold month. May would be warmer and dryer, and June would be dryer still, but then kids start getting out of school then and summer vacations start soon. So, I would venture to throw out Mid to late May?

As for who wants to attend; it's open to all. I welcome FTE and non-FTE members. Heck, I'm not a card carrying(paying) member of FTE(yet) but I plan to attend. It would just be a nice get together for some of the Ford truck/SUV/van fans in the Sooner state. I guess we could even let the OU fans attend.

As for the giveaways.....I've got some brand new unworn FTE t-shirts, one of my nifty metal glove boxes for the 1973to1979 Ford Trucks and 1978/1979 Ford Broncos, and I could even throw in a metal glove box for the mid-fifties F-100s trucks.(Just made one of those a couple weeks ago.)

So if we can get the ball rolling and a date & location established, I think we'll be set.

FYI, I voted for the "I'm serious about this...." Let me know what I can do to help. I can help cook, and clean up afterwords.

If it's near a lake, we can have a fun fishing contest for the kids. I've got some nifty giveaways from Zebco.

I wasn't really thinking as small as a 'community' get-together. Just less media and big-time events and more of a gathering of FTE people and whoever else wanted to join.

If the Tulsa area people would like to gather separately, then we can do that too. Otherwise, if we can decide on who will show, we can plan a meeting place that is somewhat centralized. I sure don't mind pitching in and doing whatever I can to help!
