I've got two small scratches on my driver side power window. They are very thin but go from the botton of the glass to the top (like something is scratching the window when it rolls down). I've taken the door panel apart to try to see where they are coming from but can't find anything out of place. I cleaned the weatherstriping out really well to make sure there wasn't a small rock or some sand in there. They still seem like they might be getting worse. When you run your finger nail over them, you can feel the scrath in the glass. Tow questions: has anyone experienced this before and is there a miracle way to reduce or get rid of the scrathes?
Ive never had anything like that happen. However, I saw an article on the site regarding 0000 grade steel wool to get scratches out of glass, I was just browsing around the SD forum and came upon it last night. Heres the link....https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...our-glass.html
There was a TSB on this. If your under warrenty they should be replaced for free. I had mine done twice by ford, no charge. I will see if i can find it and post the link.
Thanks for the links guys. My warranty has long since expired except for the powertrain. I'm going to keep an eye on it and make sure it's not getting worse and then try some methods to get the window scratch free.
If it bugs you that much, just replace the weatherstrip on the out side, and replace the glass in the door. The glass is not that hard to replace. If you have glass insurance just accidently break the glass, and get it replaced and just ask the glass shop to get the weatherstrip. They can do it at the same time.
If you want to go the other route, some jewelers rouge (sp) and you can get the hard felt buffer wheels to go into a drill and buff them out. But this is teadious and not always good results, depending on the depth of the scratch.
"If you have glass insurance just accidently break the glass, and get it replaced and just ask the glass shop "
WTF that is BS. If you want to replace the window man up and buy the window, why should my insurance cost more because of dirtbags like you? whats next if you dont like the color of your truck burn it to the ground and let insurance replace it? get a clue, you are talking about insurance fraud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree... doing the right thing is not always the easiest and/or cheapest solution but if you want to maintain your personal integrity, it's the only way to go.
Yeah I won't be having my insuarance pay for this if I decide to replace the glass. not what the insurance is for and I've never needed my insuance and want to keep it that way.
