clutch slipping

I was driving up a hill in 3rd gear when it started to slip. I down shifted to 2nd than back up to 3rd and it started to slip again. I just did a complete clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Could this be caused by low level of hydrolic fluid in my hydrolicly assisted clutch? any help is great

The clutch is held to the flywheel via the pressure plate/diaphragm springs. If it's slipping, it's being caused by something not related to low fluid levels. Low fluid would make it difficult/impossible to shift, as the clutch would stay engaged. Oil leaks? If your clutch is getting a bath in motor oil, it's going to slip. When you say "just did" the clutch, etc., how many miles ago? I don't want to come off wrong, but, how long have you been driving a manual transmission? I've seen folks burn them out in a matter of hours before.

Did you have the flywheel resurfaced?

at least on the bright side, when my tranny started goofing up and having no power, it was worse than clutch slipping. i had eaten the bearings up on the gear shafts and it cost me a rebuilt tranny. oh, well, at least it shifts good now.

Does your truck have a dual mass flywheel? If you don't know, maybe Dave S. will know if it came stock with one. This is important to know, as the flywheel itself may be slipping. This problem can be fixed. John

1989Ford7.3L,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

If he has a five speed he has a dual mass flywheel.

Any chance the pressure plate bolts backed out?
That would reduce the clamping force on the clutch disc.

i got $50 that says the DMF is no good.
my 88 would do the same thing. drive great for around 50 miles till the DMF got hot, then it would start to "slip".
the little disc in the flywheel was bad. once it heated up, it would not hold.
let it sit for 5-6 hours, and it would lock up again tight enough you could smoke the tires.

i fixed it by putting a C-6 in the truck when the t-case went.
