Smile which new tires to buy

MY 03 F350 is do for new tires. Almost 98k on it and I bought it with 28K. It had on it then and still does BF Goodrich Rugged Trail T/A's LT265/75 R16's. Don't think they were new when I bought it but have held up well

New tires are in next months budget. Guess I'm going to stay with Goodrich. Checked out Les Schwab's stuff but not impressed with their prices compared to the Goodrichs.

Keeping in mind a retired mans budget, stay pretty much stock, any suggestions. I do tow a 5er, have snow to deal with here and don't want to listen to aggressive tread noise on the road.

Our company has recently done a review of tires for our fleet of trucks. The best all season LT tire we tested was the Nokian Vativa. I don't know if they are available in your area, but they were quiet on the highway, had decent wear, but most of all they gripped ice and snow almost like a winter tire. They also came highly recommended by the Alberta Motor Association. If anyone wonders, they are not japanese - they are from Finland.

Personally I also had the Rugged Trails, I was pretty happy with them. They don't compare to the Nokians in winter though, they were absolutely amazing.

You might check out tirerack just put in your tire size and you can choose & review different tires. For the price and being a good tire the kumho road venture is good tire. I personally run nitto terra graplers 295/70/17 they are a good tire resonably priced.

I have had 2 sets of nittos and I will never buy anouther set nor recomend them to anyone. They grip very good and all no noise ride good, but I have only gotten 25,000 out of one set and maybe 30,000 out of the other. And really they were wore out at 15,000 or less but I drive 30-40,000 miles a year so I couldn't aford to change them every couple mounths and just kept driving them wore out till couldn't take it any more. I have read this from a lot of people with these tires

I was kind of surprised to hear how much you dislike the Mickey's. I've got a set of MT ATZ's on mine and they've been great tires so far. I've got about 50k km on them since new and the wear is holding up well. They are fairly quiet and handle well. I'd have to say that if the price was right I'd buy another set. I don't think I'd be lucky enough to get a set for free.

I would say get another set of what you have now. 70k miles on one set of maybe not even new tires is crazy. best value forsure right there for you!

I gotta agree with the OP. I bought my truck used with less then 20,000 miles and shot tires on it. Bought a set of Rugged Trail T/A's LT265/75 R16's the first week I owned it and now have 88,000 on the truck. I am just now looking to replace them. Nothing fancy about them but they have little to no road noise and have gotten me through muddy pastures and fields with little problem. I would like to go up to a 285 and really like the looks of the REVO 2's but have had such good luck with the rugged trails it will be hard to convince myself to change. Wish the rugged trails came in 285.

I am personally a fan of the BFG all terrains, I have had them on many vehicles and love them, I have about 25k on my current set and the have well over 50-60 percent of life left. I rotate them every 7,500 miles.

Smile Looks like Goodrich again.

Thanks for all the responses. I have been pricing and reading different reviews and think I will stick with Goodrich. WalMart seems to have the best price including installation but I'm not a real fan of the "evil" store. Looked at the Michelin LTX AT2 but I don't think they are worth the $300 difference. So in the next two weeks I might bite the bullet and buy them at the evil store.

15-20k on Nittos? Interesting.

On my second set. I changed the last @ 43k and although they were wore out, they were just at the wear indicator. These are the Terra's. I get off road w/my rig towing a 14k TT or I'd probably opt for the Dura Grapplers.

I don't have snow or ice to navigate, but I do have FL. summers and off road, too.

Seems like you should go with what you had before given your good experience with them.

On a side note, I have to agree with Bd66...I have over 40K+ each on the two sets of Nitto Terras I have bought for my '04 F250. I have no plans to change on my next set. Love 'em...

I'm on my second set of BFG Rugged Trail 265/75/16. I got 80k out of the first set, I'm at 80k on the second set, just took it in to the tire shop and the guy couldn't believe I still have 20% left. These will be my next set as well.
