Help!-1969 F-250 steering coupler(rag joint) hard to find.
he guys, I am trying to find a replacement rag joint, but can't seem to find a similar looking one. Most that i am finding are more of the universal type. (I am trying to import a picture of mine, but i'm having a little trouble). Will these universal types work. Thanks Al

Advance Auto carries a rag joint for your truck it is a Lares Steering Coupler and it is part number 202 only other thing the parts guy needs to know it whether you have a ford or bendix box. They sell for 32.99, couldn't find them at any other parts places. The universal ones should work but they probably will feel universal and not as snug.
Good Luck

Picked up a universal one at Pomona this past weekend for my 70 250 for $10 from a vendor, he threw in the grounding straps, seems fine so far (25 miles or so), unfortunately I tossed the package, so I can't tell you the brand. But I'm guessing universal is universal, just don't ask the counter guy at Autozone, or you'll wind up with an axle for a honda (where do they get those people?)

Fits: 1969/74 F100/250 2WD // 1969/74 F350 // 1969/74 Econoline.
HEBER SPRINGS FORD in Heber Springs AR has ONE = 501-362-8211.
ANTIQUE AUTO SUPPLY in Arlington TX has ONE = 817-275-2381.
WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has TWO = 606-787-5293.
The last time I listed this part number (about a year ago) here on FTE, there were over 30 still available.
What you see is all that's left.
BENDIX P/S: 1966/68 F100/250 2WD / 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001.
1969 F100/250 2WD & F350 from serial number D96,001 & 1970/72 F100/250 2WD & F350 = Ford P/S.
According to the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, C9UZ3A525A, the Genuine Ford Steering Coupler fits both Bendix & Ford P/S, and with manual steering.
It's the ONLY steering coupler listed in the catalog for all these vehicles.

If you are searching for a rag joint (steel/rubber steering coupler), you can look from now until Armaggedon comes, but you won't find any because there isn't one.
4WD's did not have a steering coupler (rag joint) until 1976. 1966 F100 4WD's, 1967/75 F100/250 4WD's have a lower steering shaft and coupler assembly, contains 21 separate parts including a U-joint.
There is a U shaped clamp with a through bolt. This clamp attaches the lower steering shaft to the input shaft of the steering gearbox.
C9TZ3D669A .. Steering Column Shaft Lower Coupling Clamp / Obsolete
Fits: 1966/70 F100/250 4WD / No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

PLEASE...when asking questions, list all the pertinent details!
You say it has P/S. P/S wasn't available until 1973, so it's been swapped in.
1973/77's came with Power Assist P/S, which has a separate control valve and ram cylinder.
Two P/S hoses route from the P/S pump to the control valve. Two short P/S hoses route from the control valve to the ram cylinder.
No hoses route to the gearbox, because with Power Assist, it's the manual type.
If Power Assist P/S, the first year for a steering coupler (rag joint) was 1976. No previous years have one.
D5TZ3A525A .. Steering Coupler Assy / Available from Ford.
Fits: 1975/77 F100/350 2WD with P/S / 1976/77 F100/250 4WD with P/S
MSRP: $88.18 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $63.49.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1978/79 4WD's came with Ford integral P/S.
Two P/S hoses route from the P/S pump to the P/S gearbox.
There are two different types of steering couplers used in these trucks. If this is the system you have, let me know...and I'll type the info.

Two questions.
1)Is this still available?
2)Will this fit a 1969 F100 2wd without power steering?
Any help will be greatly appreciated since I need a steering coupler and am having an extremely hard time finding it.
