please help

Ok here goes. I have a 99 7.3 powerstroke. Last year the fuse panel in truck got soaked. I dried it out. When I would try to start, it would not crank and would blow the #30 fuse that powers the idm. I replaced fuse panel hoping it would fix the problem. No good. Next I got a matching pcm and idm from a 2000 7.3 crashed truck. the wait to start lights came on but still would not crank. I jumped the starter selanoid and it started. ran for about 45 seconds and shut off. now the wait to start light is not coming on and it is popping the fuse when you turn the ignition switch to on. dont want to spend any more money. Argh!!

Thanks,I will check that tomorrow. What would cause the truck not to even crank when you turn the key?

# 30 blows when fuel bowl heater is shorted, and truck won't turn over without that fuse. A Curtis

If the fuel bowl heater is blowing a fuse, your engine will crank but you won't hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key to on before cranking.

Unplugged fuel bowl heater. Does not blow fuse now. still truck wont even crank, also no wait to start light, could the fuel bowl heater have blown idm somehow, or is it something else?

"wont even crank" meaning the starter does not engage, or the engine spins but fails to start? Have you checked the harness that connects with the 10mm bolt over the driver side valvecover? Turn the ignition on, then hop out and wiggle right at that harness. Listen for fuel pump, or other noisy items under the hood. If you suddenly hear stuff, you have a short in that harness (very common.) Just for laughs, if you have a Digital Multi Meter (DMM) that has the ability to test a diode (most do) find the PCM diode (it's black with the diode symbol on it) and test that it is working. After rereading your post, found that you've replaced both the PCM and IDM what lead you to that conclusion this early?

Does not crank the starter at all. Got in today and hooked battery up, Wait to stat light is on and everything sounds like it is turning on under hood. Still wont crank when I turn the key? Gonna test solenoids tomorrow. After no progress after replacing fuse box, I remembered IDM also got very wet so I thought I would try this route. A totaled truck came in at the body shop next store , owner said take what I want so I took the computers to replace mine. Now im here. Thanks

Pull your Batts, trickle charge them, put them back in and attempt to start. Then post results.
