I just hopped over here from the 04-08 F-150 forum. I saw on the home page that Ford is coming out with a 2011 Super Duty? This is October 2009!!! Give me a brake. It's a 2010.

 

Annoying, I know, but they've done it before. For example, the '08 came out in early '07, and the '07 MY was a short run. That was dictated by the older 6.0 diesel not being compliant with emissions standards. Now they are faced with the same thing and must replace the 6.4 diesel to meet 2010 emissions. Plus, their contract with Navistar to build the engine has expired, so they had to get into the new engine.

Plus, all the marketing jazz from being the first on the street with a 2011. All things considered, I think it is better than doing a 2010.5 like they have before.

I think this new 2011 will be really interesting, if the motor proves to be ok after a few months I bet they fly off the shelves.

There are still a few new '08s around here. If they aren't all sold soon, there will be new '08, '09, '10 and '11 trucks on the lots.

 

dont expect to see 2011 models on dealer lots until early spring of 2010..

so its not that early really...

Somewhere I read on a similar discussion that Ford cannot manufacture 2010 trucks with the 6.4 as it does not meet the 2010 emission compliance. So what you will see in 2010 were actually manufactured in 2009.

 

Not exactly. What I read is that it is the motor manufacture date that matters, so Ford cannot use any 6.4 motors that were manufactured prior to 2010. But they can stockpile the motors and could use them throughout 2010 if they wanted. That's exactly what they did with the 2007 trucks, which was the last uptick in emissions requirements.

 

I don't understand your post above. First, we must remember that the 6.4 is NOT 2010 compliant for emissions.

Then the next sentence "...stockpile the motors and could use them throughout 2010."

It is difficult to find anything factual. Probably by Ford's choice.

 

Rich, I think what Bill was trying to say was that Ford can stockpile 6.4s and as long as the engines were manufactured prior to 1/1/2010, they can use them in the trucks. The way I read the guidelines, I understood them to mean that the rule of thumb was that the date of manufacture of the truck was not the issue....it's the date of manufacture of the engine itself. In other words, a truck could be built after 1/1/2010 with a 6.4 as long as the engine was manufactured prior to that date when the new emissions laws go into effect.

New 6.2 gas engine - perfect for my combination use of travel trailer towing and knock around town driving.
New 6 speed transmission
Thanks for not going the way of the new F150 in styling
Flow through console - Captain chairs available?
Better fuel economy

Cons
Badges on side between the fenders and hood. The previous design was ugly. These are even worse.
Not crazy about the front grille design but I'll probably get used to it.

 

Yeah, I wrote one thing and meant another. My mind was, er, elsewhere. Thanks for clarifying, John. The point was, it is the engine manufacture date that matters.

Just like Ford did for the '08s, they will probably shut Super Duty manufacturing down in December of this year. Then they'll start producing 2011 trucks in January for deleivery and sale starting February of 2010.
