Big rig. I thought the same.. Mine varies on time it takes to "GO"
Turn on key.
I don't pay attention to the light. But listen for the vacuum pump fart. Soon as it fart. Turn key. Crank, crank, crank. Varoom. <- more like a kaplow? Nah. Wierd can't spell it. OR somthimes i get a crank, crank, crank, crank, crank, crank. Varoom.
It don't matter what temperature, it varies. No Go peddle, Ever.
My dads is more consistent. Crank crank crank. Varoom.
I think the words you are looking for are "Barks like a big dog"
After cleaning all four batt terminals last weekend, mine cranks alot faster than it used to, I also changed the solenoid and it gave the starter a whole new "tinny" sound ???
Hitting the accelerator pedal while cranking does nothing. The injectors will not be commanded to fire until proper oil pressure is reached. So until that happens, injectors stay turned off even if your foot is on the pedal.
my 02 cranks and fires up fast but my father in law's 00 cranks a little slower. i think its the temperment of the truck personally. jmo...........
'02, '03 MY trucks came with a gear-reduction starter, less teeth on the starter and much higher torque. It was implemented to make starts much easier with less crank time. Once my starter goes, I'm getting myself one off ebay or somewhere local...
Well i didn't read through all the posts but my truck after getting new batteries and when cold (40 to 50F outside) will turn over about 3 or 4 times then WAM! she's alive but she turns over pretty fast since I got the new batteries which allows it to build pressure faster.
Found out over the weekend that if you roll these things and pop the clutch they don't ask questions or make much noise other then "CHERP! BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP, VROOOOOM"
Yeppers, I wondered as well and was in a drive way going down hill and thought I'd screw around a bit, turned the key on, started rolling, popped the clutch and WAM! she's running. Just had a little cherp from the tires is all, just remember when you do it use 2nd gear, seems to work best that way in most manuals.
