To be honest unless you're going to be driving a long distances by yourself pretty regularly or want to run convoy with someone I'd say it's not worth it. Most of the guys on the radio aren't worth listening to. Bunch of foul mouths. Could be nice to keep in touch if you're running together with someone or to just hear a human voice that isn't your own after driving by yourself for 13 hours. Past that it's just not worth it IMO.

Speaking of radios, anyone know of a CB unit that also functions on FRS and GMRS channels?

Trying to cut down on radio clutter, and handhelds suck, lol. I use FRS radios much more often than CB when travelling with a large group (12-15 cars/trucks), and i'm tired of AA batteries and rechargables that are always dead...

The best mounting for the antenna is right in the center of your roof! period! I have a Wilson 5000 up on mine and a cheap older Cobra radio and it works great!
CB radios were the original wireless communication back in the day before cell phones!

Get a HAM license and you can get a HAM radio and mod it for FRS, GMRS and talk to people that aren't crude :-P

Here's the first link I found on a Google search:
Galaxy DX 959 CB Radio W. SideBand - Electronics Superstore www.WalcottCB.com

EDIT: And I'd give it an 8 or 9 out of 10 for looks. Here's the catch, I don't have a mic for it. You can find one cheap enough I'm sure. I *have* checked it out and made sure it works, and I have a power cord for it. I know it can be tweaked & channeled, none of which I have done to it.

EDIT2: Here is an actual pic of the radio I have:

The radio is only as good as the antenae system. I got the best mobile performance with the K40, in both AM & SB. It is adjustable for best SWR. The roof acks like a ground plain so mount it in the middle of the vehicle for best signal radiation.
