that is one thing that always worried me. cows or deer out in the road. and where i live its not very uncommon. it happens all the time. now after seeing this im not to worried about it cause i know me, my wife and kids will be ok. doesnt mean im gonna aim for the animals but its still nice to know that these trucks can withstand an impact like that. thats 2700lbs total ramming the front of the truck.

just remember if a deer or any animal for that matter run in front of the truck never swerve to miss it just hit the breaks and keep the wheel straight because swerving to miss usually results in a more significant wreck than the front/side impact of the animal (roll overs, headons, etc).
For example back in my home town last month a doe ran out in front of a couple in Tahoe going westbound on the highway and their instincts were to swerved to miss it. They end up hitting a Toyota Camary head on going eastbound killing a lady, her 5 month old baby, and putting a guy in the hospital. just one of many wrecks i have seen that happend that way. im sure you know that but just making it more known to people who might not be around deer and bigger animals on the roadways.

Back to the subject, nice to know with technology these trucks are getting stronger instead of weaker (current trend of less metal and more plastic).

Musta been powerwashed for the picture. No hair, guts or blood.

Darn good comparted to other photos i've seen of vehicles hitting animals.

This part just bothers me, a little. It may just be the way it's worded, but just sounds from the way it's worded he had some time to react. It might just be me being nit picky today too.

"On May 9th, I was driving on south Interstate 45 from Dallas to Houston at 5 in the morning. It was pitch black outside and as I came over a small hill in the road, there were 6 cattle standing across the freeway. I was traveling 65-70 miles an hour and I did not have time to react and swerve away from the cows. I hit and killed 3 of the cows."

I was thinking the exact same thing.

well the cows may have not been all together in a bunch. 3 could have been in his lane and the other could have been in another lane. 45 south from dallas to houston is 2 lanes on each side with a center median. so theres a little room there for animals to be. i just came back from that way a few months ago.

Hitting big animals like cattle or elk wouldn't nessisarily tear into flesh or even severly hurt the animal, I've seen a few crashes up here in PA of people running into elk or moose and being killed while the animal actually survives (if only for a short time). In fact just this last winter a semi hit a moose destoying the bumper and radiator without even hurting the moose, and lemmi tell ya, moose and elk don't tend to care to get out of the way! (you can google if you must)

wow...hopefully somebody field dressed those cows and they had burgers that night.

what we used to do when we nailed a deer or cow back home in Central Texas. figure if they can ruin my damn car, I can eat well off 'em. And it's also why all of our trucks had "Cow Killer" brush guards installed. damn things are pests.

it's nice to seem more evidence affirming why my family rides in a badass Ford
