Gas tank interfering with transfer case
I'm trying to install a 90 inline six and an auto/transfer case from a 95 or so Bronco into my 87 4X4. When we dropped it all in and hoisted it up into position the xfer case hits the corner of the gas tank. Anyone have experience with this?

im guessing the truck you are trying to instal this in is a reg short box with front and rear tanks. the only way to make this work is to loose the front tank or modify it so it will fit.

Reg. cab short bed 4x4's only came with one tank because of that. Are you converting a 4x2 to a 4x4?

Negative. It is standard cab. The truck was a 4X4 4 speed. Going to the later model engine with auto and the old xfer was stolen. Got a good deal on the auto/xfer combo.

Hmmm... I guess the old setup with the 4 speed and t/case was a shorter unit. Might have to axe the front tank or see if you can modify it like Fordguy said. Is it a long bed? I have never seen a short bed reg. cab 4x4 with dual tanks. Not saying there wasnt one, just never heard of it.

i know that the 92-96 body style was not offer with reg cab short bed dual tanks and 4x4. it was eather the 4x4 or dual tanks but because of the wheel base there was not enough room i would think the same fro the other models except maybe those that used a shorter tranny.

That was not an option on my 1990 4x4 SWB RC either. I am guessing it's because the of the availability in later years of the E4OD trans which is longer than either the AOD or C6.

What I'm wondering is: which part of my combo is not working? Is there a different tank in later model pickups? Is the trans/xfer combo different between pickups and Broncos? etc...
I'm hoping that I can just change out the gas tank.

The part that is not working is the E4OD transmission. Once Ford starting using that trans, the aux tank was not available on the SWB RC 4x4 trucks.

Okay. Thanks guys. I'll get on with the swap and see if I can cut out the corner of the tank.
