Note: Ford Motorsport gauges made by Autometer require the Autometer sending unit # 3262 which operates at 240 ohms empty and 33 ohms full unlike the normal Ford compatible senders as detailed above.

There's a ton of useful info Bobby posted there - very much worth reading.
If your sending unit is reading a constant resistance, chances are the winding on the rheopstatic slide has broken or not making contact anymore. You can take them apart but honestly that wire is so tiny if it is at all corroded or if you touch it, chances are you will probably break it if it's not broken already.
It sounds like it's time for a new one!
I've had limited luck cleaning old fuel senders in the past. They aren't real complicated, basically a tiny wire wound multiple times around a chunk of plastic/fiberboard/etc with a small wiper arm attached to the float.
As Jules mentioned the wire is pretty delicate and there's a good chance its corroded beyond repair or the board its wrapped on is toast. If the wires are broken before they ge to the windings you can sometimes repair them, or if the wiper arm isn't making good contact or is a bit corroded you can fix that as well.
Its worth it to take a look, worst case scenario is that you can't do anything with it and have to get another.
Good luck
Bobby
