well it could ahve been worse, nothing destroyed and "stuff" is easy to replace. sorry for your aggravation though!
we don't lock our houses, trucks, or camps much in this part of vermont, but the kids did break in if you can call it that when they are unlocked.
over the weekend the kids went into all the cars in the duplex apartment house down in the next town and moved everything from the first car to the second car and so on, so everyone's "stuff" was one car over!
annoying to everyone to move their stuff back around but pretty harmless.
hahahaha maby those kids were teaching everyone a lesson.
lock it up.
I was at my GF's house when it happened. Her little brother, mom and my girl all said AFTER the fact that there is a house down the street where these kids live. I have never met them, and may GOD help them if I meet them after I KNOW they did it...
The SS card: I had it in my wallet, and it got pretty distroyed. I was in my truck killing time for whatever reason, and put it in the center console among other things. Thats the reason it was left in the truck.
I entered the truck sunday morning in the RR door. I noticed the center console was open. Thinking to myself "self, I dont remember leaving that open." I looked in the front seat to find half the console contents laying on my front passenger seat. I had to think about what I was missing, and Im sure I still havnt figured it all out yet; cause lets face it, you just dont realize what youre missing until you go to get it. Thats how I noticed the camera.
I cant remember if I locked it the night before or not. I was VERY tired, and I had my hands full. I just cant remember... Also, I may have left the ipod in view. So if I did leave it unlocked, and the ipod in plain sight, that STILL DOES NOT give any (enter bad name here) the right to help theirselves to MY STUFF!!!!!!!!!
I know things could have been ALOT worse, and for that I am thankful. The truck could have been damaged, stolen, lives at stake, more things taken, etc. And I know other people have it ALOT worse than I, but it just SUCKS none the less.
Thanks for all that replied, some good info there about persuing this, and words of wisdom.

I actually leave my truck unlock with nothing in it of value. I do have a tool box on the back with some tools in it, but nothing overly expensive. My thinking is someone will break something trying to get in, I will have to pay to fix it. If I leave the doors unlocked and the truck empty there will be no reason to break in. If they do still want to, hopefully they will be smart enough to open the door and not screw up my truck. This worked, except someone stole my owners manual! But nothing else, and nothing had to be fixed. I can live with that. It sucks to have to think that way, but I would rather not have to fix my truck because of some idiot or thief
I can't believe all the illegal things being condoned in retaliation. Do any of you really think it's a good idea?
If you left the truck unlocked, and the stuff in plain sight, well, it's your own damn fault
Reality sucks... But you gotta deal with it.
Chris (aldridgec) has it right - most times, I leave my truck unlocked, or with nothing of any value in it. Or both. I figure if someone's going to break in, they will, and break something valuable doing it.
I look at it this way: If you don't want to lose your valuable stuff, DO NOT LEAVE IT IN THE TRUCK.
I live in an area where not locking a vehicle isn't so much of an option unless you want to replace your stereo and phone charger every couple weeks. Fortunately, they're mostly opportunists here. Not drawing attention by keeping everything out of sight and keeping the alarm engaged seems to work well enough for now. I'm going to make a pet project of adding power outlets inside the center console to keep my $99 gps charged. It's easy enough to use, and drop back in the "basket" that held CD's before the ipod made them obsolete.
I agree with Krewat though. I don't leave anything in the truck that I'm going to lose sleep over.
How secure are tool boxes? Locking tools in the back seat at work works for now, but it's a hassle unloading everything every night. I was digging through the web sites for Roll-N-Lock recently as well, their product looks pretty secure from what I've seen.
On a more amusing note - trucks seem less likely to be messed with in my area. I'm not sure if it's just easier to see into smaller cars without drawing attention... or that truck people are scary. Both thoughts amused me.
Shooting a kid is out of the question, I got in a lot of trouble as a teenager and snapped out of if in my early twenties and shooting me then would be a punishment that didn't match the crime. Leaving things in plain sight is just plain ignorant, I do believe in hiding things you need to carry in case it gets broken into. I had my wallet, cell phone, and other things hidden when they got into my car one time and all they took was some washers that looked like quarters in the dark.

This is just a small stepping stone in life it's a truck and small misc. items. As hard as it might seem get over and move on and no matter how tiered you might be make sure the battleship is batten down (truck, house, family). These scum ***** are just waiting for you to slip up and take what you have.
No need lowering yourself to the level of a scum ball by baiting. We probably have thought the same thing when it happens to us. I like to think in the end these folks have to answer to someone for their deeds.

I was back home in VT all last week for the first time in 5 years and got tickled at all the cars sitting at stores running with keys in them!
