thinking of trade to 06 - suggestions

I have a '99 350 w/255,000mi. tired of standard! Found a '06 250 KR good condition w/112,000mi. They will give me 7k for mine, and the KR is 22,500k. Think this is a good deal, also, would like to buy a warranty w/it if I do the deal...anyone know a extended warranty plan?

Well your gonna get biased opinions in this forum, with these guys n gals!

Make sure ya do your research on the 6.uhoh trucks. They arent as reliable as a general rule as a 7.3. Get an oasis report done for sure.

I can understand wanting to upgrade your truck, but IMO I would go for a tad more expensive 08+ with the 6.4 over a 6.0. Just my opinion.

22,500K for a truck with that many miles is high in my opinion. What are the other specs on the 06?

Might be a good deal.. if you have 8 new injectors.. upgraded headgasket and Headstuds.. w/ the EGR delete.. if those haven't been done then I say pass.

I'd agree on this.

Diesel Power magazine had an article a few months back about addressing the 6.0s reliability issues. Studs & EGR delete (for me) would be mandatory to even consider a 6.0, or the $$$ to do those mods right off the top. Plus, the VV turbo in the 6.0 and injectors can add significantly to your mod/repair/"make-it-reliable" bill. I think $5,000 would cover all those, but if they haven't been done, asking price would have to drop that far for me to consider it.

If you ask about this work being done, I'd want to see some verification that it actually has, don't take the salesman's word for it. Also, that is a high price for a truck of that age with that many miles.

I would tend to agree with these guys - they're asking too much for the truck. If you really like the truck, get the dealer to start throwing things into the deal to sweeten the pot! A good warranty plan can cost a couple grand. If the dealer has a service department, get a fist full of oil change coupons.

I would stay with the 7.3, your going to poor more money into the 6.0 in mods and maintenance then the 7.3, heck you could start to build a new engine for the extra expenses that you will incur on the 6.0. On the flip side, they are nice trucks, especially the KR's.

A friend of mine just bought an '06 F350 XL CC LB 4x4 with 6.0 and 143k miles. It's in decent shape and he paid $12,500 with no warranty. It did have a clean Carfax report with some bed repair that he was aware of when he purchased it. I drove it to town, to pick up some cabinets, after I had installed a trailer light socket in the bed and I wasn't too impressed with it. My wife even commented how she liked my '01 better. She also road in his '08 KR, after I put a NEW TURBO (what a PITA) and delete pipes on it and she said the same thing.

Yep -- headstuds & EGR delete. Then it's a relatively decent motor. I just found out there's some kind of issue with their HP oil system that keeps them from starting. My buddy's '06 350 KR just had to go in for that issue. Don't know if it's the IPR or what. If it is, I think the '05-'07s are the easy ones to get to. '03 & '04 had them in a really tight place.

I would look for one with less miles if I was going to buy one.

Buy an 02 or 03 7.3L with an auto with lower miles. It would be just a matter of time before you kicked yourself in the a$$ for selling it. Theres a reason you see alot of 6.0s for sale after they just turn 100K. And that is too much for that truck.
