p0174 code. why i am getting this about once a month? and why when i drive it do i often get a "dead pedal"? usually part throttle accelerating/additional throttle for upcoming hills will set it off. it will actually feel like i hit the brakes. thats how bad it stumbles on itself and ill have to damn near floor it before it wll snap out of it. would the "bank 2 too lean" be causing this. ford mechanics cant tell me what it is. wtf!? any ideas. thanx.
Just same reply as usual for me, is fuel filter new? And, check all the connections going to the different components, all it takes is one loose or slightly corroded one to make trouble. I'm "***"uming Ford checked the fuel injectors and fuel lines etc. These are always the worst problems because they only happen occasionally. My 96 had a glitch that made me insane, finally I just decided to sell it, hopefully you'll solve yours soon.
yeah they checked the injectors and everything. the only thing they replaced was the fuel pump module which they said was corroded. but it didnt help any. i changed the fuel filter myself. also put new plugs in it cause i got a little bit of water in the motor after a day at the river. iknow thats what started all this. i just cant figure out whats causing this. ive been told that a lean code could be injectors which is my theory, but risky considering the cost. on the other hand ford told me the lean code was due to a vaccuum leak. they checked but found nothing. i dont know. i do have a loose connection at the maf sensor but wouldnt that throw a maf related code instead of lean in just one bank?
yeah i need to. i understand its hard for them cause its an intermittent prob. i even took a mechanic for a ride so he could feel what it was doin, but it didnt do it then. go figure.
what about a blown head gasket or cracked head? what would that do to driveability? just discovered my oil looks like pb. what ever my prob is it has to be mechanical or id be having codes flashed at me daily.
Well, there aren't many vacuum hoses your year model so i would rule out a vacuum leak. You could be losing fuel pressure, but that would usually set p0171 and p0174, and most of the time p0191. Most of the time when the fuel pump starts to go, it only starts dropping pressure when it gets really hot, and it will have little to no power. Turn the truck off let it sit for an hour and it will run fine again untill it gets hot. SO, if it isn't your fuel pump, i would probably replace the front o2 sensor on the driver side and see what it does. That is your cheapest bet right now. Good luck.
Not a lot of help here as to the exact problem but....you said you got a little water in the motor after a day at the river. If you were running / playing in the water you may have gotten some other connections wet that would normally be dry. Oil like PB usually means water. If cracked head or head gasket the water level in the radiator / overflow bottle will be low if water is comming from coolant.
if im losing coolant in the motor its barely cause i havent noticed any change in the overflow tank. also the pb is only on the top side of heads. dipstick looks good. more confusion. wonderful. back to fuel probs, according to dealer pump is fine. one thing i did notice is that when it does go into its hesitation, my impg (according to edge progammer) freezes no matter what i do with the pedal, like no more fuel is being introduced at all or throttle sticks. made me think its either fuel regulator or maybe even tps(which more than likely got wet from river). but i figured that would surely throw a code. and it never does during its hesitation. its very wierd.
