1978 F700 front fenders

i just bought a '78 F700...front fenders have minor damage and i will repair or replace depending on the answer to my question....my question is; will fenders from the B series fit an F series ? hood, grill, bumper all are the same..owner tells me that the inner and outer fenders are longer on the B series..if they are longer, by how much and can they be made to fit? thanks for any insight..

By Bseries you mean the bus chassis right?
as far as i have ever seen, everything is identical on the front clip between B and F series. check out mill supply for new front fenders, it will save you time in bodywork if they are that bad.

F700 F vs B debacle

I talked again at length with the owner of the buses. he imformed me that there is a 3"wide filler panel welded to the rear of the fenders to fit them to the bus cowl..i am going to look at them this weekend...the reason i am looking is that the whole front clip is exceptionally clean,no rust or damage, very reasonable priced at $300.00 and is the same very yellow paint as my truck...my truck was a former municiple vehicle, hence the bright yellow...thanks for your input...and might i add that your ride is very cool !!!..i will post some pics of my very large 4X4 in the near future...trying to get it into the sunlight and out of the barn where it has been sitting the last 5 or so years...if you google Autocar U7144 T a bunch will come up...mine is the soft top version..thanks again....

Yes, the fenders are the same.
Note: Some ppl confuse F Series Trucks with LN Series trucks. If...you are not sure what you have, post the first three digits of the VIN.

The following front fenders fit 1973/79 B & F500/880.

D7TZ16005B .. Right Front Fender / D7TZ16005B replaced: D3TZ16005B & D4TZ16005A / Obsolete

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
------------------------------------------------
D7TZ16006B .. Left Front Fender / D7TZ16006B replaced: D3TZ16006B & D4TZ16006A / Obsolete

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has ONE = 800-543-4959.

WOLFE FORD in Lidgerwood ND has ONE = 701-538-7337.

PREAUS FORD in Farmersville LA has ONE = 318-368-3805.

KINSEL L/M in Beaumont TX has EIGHT = 800-816-2894.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has FORTY (40) = 888-727-0418.

CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has...THREE HUNDRED & FIFTY! (350) = 704-786-8139.

btw: You're prolly wondering why there are 100's of left front fenders available, but no right front fenders.

Statistics show that the right side gets hit faaaar more often then the left side. This is the case with ALL vehicles.

If a L/M dealer has 8 of these I wonder what the rest of their inventory looks like. Wow

thanks

i am not confused by LN vs F series.my first brand spanking new truck was a 1969/70(ordered in Nov 69) LN 900 with a 391,5x2, custom cab, butterfly hood, power steering ,10.00 rubber on 10 hole budd wheels and a 16' heil 2 piston exterior frame platform dump.they also never had steel fenders on an LN, one piece glass...but i know you are aware of that.. if i decide on new fenders, buying one side is not mt first choice...i am leaning toward the bus front clip..very solid and reasonable..i will not know the extent of fitting until i get the nose off and home...there is a 2 or 3 inch filler panel at rear of the fender to fit the bus cowl...i am hoping they are riveted or screwed.not welded i appreciate all your help...you are a varitable plethora of knowledge when it comes to ford parts....wish you were closer, the yard were all this nifty stuff is has 3 buses full of all sorts of NOS ford parts that were bo't in the late 70's or early '80's. i did buy 30+ mercury & lincoln fenders and other sheet metal from '62 to '74..did very well on those..paid $1000.00 for the lot.the sell off helped to finance one of my truck projects...thanks again...AVL...

I wondered about this, so I called them.

When I asked, I was told the dealer has two separate franchises: Ford & Lincoln/Mercury. The parts are stored in buildings at the L/M dealership.

Why does this dealer have soooo many obsolete parts (the fenders are a drop in the bucket!!)?

You could ask the same thing about Don Sanderson Ford in AZ, Bob Allen Ford in KS and Parts International in TX.

These dealers have bought (obsolete) parts from other dealers & dealers that closed....usually for 5 cents on the dollar.

These dealers sell a good portion of these parts to wholesale parts "jobbers" who then turn around and sell the parts to autoparts stores, wrecking yards in Central & South America.

I searched for all 6 of these part numbers. Sorry, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

I had a hard enough time keeping obsolesence out of my own inventory much less buying more.

the f500-f7000 grills were never made in aluminum, they were all heavy gauge steel painted or chromed. maybe the catalogs are wrong?

yeah, if you see one that is cherry, i dont care about the finish, just as long as there is no bondo or filler. the one i have is fine except for a small ding and a wavy section from a poor die at the factory. but i want to have one that is perfect.

1973/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalog says in Section 80, Page 30:

D7HZ8200A .. Grille-Painted Aluminum Finish

Does this catalog description mean the grille is painted the color of aluminum, or the grille is made from aluminum?

It's been years since I've seen one of these new grilles, so I cannot remember.

Well it does say finish, and i have seen many of these trucks, and they were all painted steel. some were chromed steel, as was the aftermarket one that i have.

Good question.I have saw many bright grills but never investigated what they were made of
I have saw many painted grills, but they were white. The new pained grills we got were black primer
Think some of the bigger Fs had silver grills similar to the Ns and Ls
