The fuel system went to Fuel Injected in 1988.
In 1989 electrical harness changed in the engine compartment and now there was a big round plug at the firewall.
The fuel system changed again in 1990 with with the high pressure fuel pump now in the tank and no longer did they used a fuel selector valve on the frame.
There was a big change to just about everything in 1992.

that would mean that I should look for a shop manual from 86 or 87 for my 460 carb and it would not be covered in the 88 manuals. Would it be the only main thing? carb vs EFI?

Yes, I saw that one, but was wondering if the price was too high. There is a set for the 88 MY going for $10 in the auction as of now. It probably won't go as high as $90...
If the price is good at $90, then I might go for it.

You want the two volume set with the big second volume, it is the one that cost the most.
Do not get the one for the F & B, C, L or Medium Heavy Truck as those do not apply to your truck.
A lot of the two volume set for the F-series do go for around $90.00.
The link above is the only two volume set on ebay that I see for the 87.

Not to be getting off topic or away from his problem, wondered where would you get a Motor's or Chilton"s new if you wanted one? Don't think The Zone carries them. Used to have a couple old ones for cars from back in the 80s / early 90s but can't remember where I got them. Didn't need them, so I just donated them to the tech school where Old Rusty still is. Hopefully by the end of the month or the first part of next month he'll be done. Would they even still have one for a '91 available or would I have to settle for a used one from E-Bay or Craig's List?

1OldFordMan,
I have a lot of Hearst Motors Manuals and the 1987-92 Light Truck & Van Repair Manual 9th Edition that I have does cover your truck.
I guess they are still around and you may be able to order an older Edition from Hearst Books.
