Just pick up a 44/9 out of a 79. Going to install in my 92. This has been very helpful so far.

Old post I know, but this was very helpful to me! Answered alot of questions at the right time as I plan on doing my SAS swap in my 87 f150 in the next 2 weeks! Axle is out of a 76 highboy, with disks, arb air locker, 4.09 gear, custom built long radius arms, and fully trussing the the d44 housing, and 6.5" lift springs. Never done a SAS swap bug can't wait to be sitting tall with a strait axle and 37's

18 longer that stock. And stronger!

 

Im new to this type of thing and I know you used a 1975 axle. What I want to know is if this will work with a high pinion out of a 1977 model truck?

 

 

I have a 78 f150 4x4 w a dana 44 front. But is leaf spring and not coil. I have an 84 short wide I want to put it in... can I use this front axle or do I need to scrap it and by a completely different parts truck? I am planning on a 6 inch lift w 4 inch body to fit 36 13.50 currently but maybe larger down the road. If I can convert the 78 dana to coil how do i do that? Is there a kit i can buy that would ha e the majority of the parts i need in one shot? I don't know and this is my first sas. The 9 in the 78 is going in the same 84 as well, and the 429 cj on top of that.... lol i have all these thing but wrong type of suspension can i make it work? And what do i need thx

 

What is the lowest anyone has successfully run a sas? 4" over stock ttb height??

Searching forums for this info is much much harder than it was 10 yrs ago now that vertical scope has ruined FSB and pirate

I have had a complete 79 swb frame with axles and drivetrain for a few years now. Before I scrapped the body I had rebuilt the rear axle with a spool, new bearings/seals etc. Front axle was gone thru also with full circle clips and life series joints etc. I want to make my 89 4x4, but I prefer it to be as low as possible. Ideally just be about 2" over stock ttb 4x4 height.

Starting to lean towards a ttb setup. I want to run 33's with 3.50 gears being I have and intend to keep a c6.

Thoughts?

 

From all the research I did prior to doing my SAS 4” was the minimum lift required in order to clear the cross member. Granted that’s been probably 8 years ago or so but that number stands out.

 

I must say, about 90% of you need to go to the top and read beginning to end. ****....some probably need to read it 2-3 times. Then out of that 90%, 3/4 of you need to just forget about doing a SAS and worry about learning how to check your tire pressure and doing oil changes first. Now, those who read the thread from the beginning wont have to ask the same ****ing questions over and over and over. You ask a question and then ****ing argue about the answer given to you. No you can't use a 78-79 drag link on a sas. It DOES NOT FIT. ****. You need one from 92 up F-350. Quit asking why and what if and how come. You want to use your old one and save money? Go ahead. IT DONT FIT!!!! What is minimum lift? 4 INCHES!!!!!! Can you go less? Why not? How come? YOU CAN, GO RIGHT AHEAD. USE YOUR STOCK COILS!!!! Everyone asks the stupidest questions over and over expecting a different answer they want to hear. Some of the questions like can I run 44's on a ttb dana 44? Yes. Go ahead. You going to break ****. Then the same guy that asked that question has a smart *** answer like " How about if I run 42's then? My cousins neighbor had 42s on his Ford. Well dip **** he also a ****in F350 with a dana 60 on that Ford with 42s. I cant believe some of you retards.
