Transmission and Power Steering Pump Fluid

I am going to flush both my transmission and power steering pump Friday, was wondering if anyone had a recomendation on synthetics, ie which brand you prefer?

Have decided with all the towing I do, synthetic is best, just looking for best brands, and also maybe the best place to get a decent price on it? Looks like I will need a 5 gallon bucket plus a few quart bottles to do both.

Thanks, Tom

For your power steering system.. a lot of us use Mobil 1 syn (Dexron/Mercon, Mercon V)..
For your trans.. if it's still stock.. I would use Mercon V Or Mercon if you can still find it...
Do you need the procedures for the flush on the steering and trans?

Procedure

Thanks for the advise. I have the procedures bookmarked that have been posted on earlier threads, thanks much for offering.though.

Have everything ready to go but the fluid itself, new factory tranny filter, 16 feet of clear tubing so I can start/stop and control flow while working alone, and the most important tool of all, my laptop so I can come running back to FTE everytime I hose something up

If you could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Been looking for the power steering flush procedure - not having much luck. Thanks.

I'm running Mobil1 as well. Good stuff! I bought it by the case from O'Reilly Autoparts for about $5.50 a quart. Fairly expensive, but should be good for 50k+ as long as you don't overheat it. I have the TransGo Tugger and 6.0L trans cooler and it really keeps everything cool. I don't get over 140 empty, even when it was 100 degrees+ here.

Again, thanks.

Not sure

My 2001 is the first ford i have owned in 25 years, not really sure what would be in a 95. I would guess the procedure would be very similar, but total fluid needed would be an unknown is my hunch.

Yeah, and my question does it take Mercon V? I'm guessing it would... Just use a catch can that you know the volume of. That way, when you see BIG bubbles in the line, you'll know how much to add back in the pan.

Catch pan

Funny you mentioned the known volume, I had planned on modifying the procedure a little bit just for that reason. I saved all of my 1 gallon oil bottles from the last oil change as well as my 1 gallon antigreeze bottles from the flush. I plan on putting the first 6 quarts in as recomended, then running the fluid out in 1 gallon increments. I figure that way I will be guaranteed to maintain a constant level doing it 1 gallon in, one gallon out until its running clean fluid.
