Thanks for the Welcome all.
I'll have to take some more pics, I lost all the ones I had taken. I'll post some after I figure out how....

Thanks!
I'm up in Denver.
I found the truck posted on Craigslist, then my wife bought it for me as a Christmas surprise! I finally got the title after having to apply for it and waiting a few months, so I just started working on it....

Windshield installation

What is the best rubber adhesive to use on the gasket to windshield glass? Silicone rubber sealant?

hi Carl, timely question. I think I read on here a while back to NOT use silicone products but the rubberized products are good. Im going to have to search for that discussion again now since I hope to get my glass all in over the coming weeks ( which somehow turns into months. lol )

later

Windshield rubber adhesive

Thanks, Josh. I looked for other threads on "windshield installation" but all of them related to more recent trucks. The new vehicles have hardening adhesives that make the windshield a structural element, I was told. The windshield gasket I got from MACs has an instruction sheet with the same wording as in the Ford Shop Manual, with a Ford part number for the glue. My local auto parts store has the 3M silicone and tells me that is what to use.

Do NOT use silicone with a rubber gasket. Skip the auto parts store and go right to a local automotive glass replacement place. Tell they what you're doing and they'll set you up with the correct stuff.

Windshield rubber adhesive

My local auto parts store recommended 3M #08008 "Black Super weatherstrip and gasket adhesive." It supposedly stays flexible. No silicone. Who knows?

I posted a thread a few months ago. I'm on the iPhone at the moment, so a little limited on posting links. Look in my profile for postings. I show the non-hardening sealant in that post.

Windshield rubber adhesive

Check that....the 3M product I mentioned is for weatherstripping. Still on a hunt for rubber-to-glass adhesive. The Ford part is, or was, 8A-19552-B. Any idea what that was?

Here you go....this is the stuff:

Here's the thread I posted a while back that shows a step-by-step of putting in a windshield:

Windshield installation

Thanks, Dan. That is what I needed. I saw some discussion on your thread about the tabs sticking down in the way. The Ford Service Manual mentions them and says to bend them up when you put in the rubber gasket, then bend them back down afterwards. What are they for? Keep the glass from popping out in a crash?
