Red face 69 T-Bird Frt Suspension Grapht to 60 F-100

Hay All –

Have a question that hopefully someone out there can shed some light on for me. I have a suspension from a 1969 T-bird that I was pondering graphing to my 60 F-100 truck frame.

Although the wheel base is practically the same as the 60 truck and the front suspension rails / housing of the T-Bird front end align almost perfectly to the 60s – the T-Bird suspension is designed in the shape of a Y – which means – although the front suspension of the T-Bird aligns with the original 60 suspension – it starts to extend outside the 60’s frame rails as much as ¾ " on both sides. I was thinking I could weld channel stock to the outer sides of the 60’s frame rails – weld that to the T-Birds frame – then box it in all around with steel plating.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I’ve never taken on such a task as this – so I am having a hard time making that first cut into the 60’s frame – to cut away the original front portion. Has anyone out there graphed a different suspension to a truck or car frame – other then the usual Volarie and Mustang II frontends. If so - what should I watch out for - The benefits of doing this are great…. 10 in front disk brakes – IFS – power steering. I was planning on putting a 429 CJ into the stock F-100 front end and was concerned it would be way to much for the stock suspension to handle – that’s when I remembered the 69 T-Bird sitting out back and thought that perhaps I could use that front end – seeing that it has a 429 Thunderjet already in it. so the CJ should fit right onto the existing motor mounts.
<o></o>
Hope you all can make sense of what I am attempting to do and perhaps share some advise or tips….

Yes, it can be made to work, (most things can, some not so well) but its not for the faint of heart!

Have you read this, (and if not why not)?

Look at post # 12.

(these links below do not work, and I'm too lazy to post all of them, I wonder why these never said ford, dodge, etc. etc., you have to look at them all to find the one you want)
From the steering and suspension section –

Go this link, it's about Crown Vic front clip transplants (not good, too wide) but it talks about other clips with links (?).

The bottom left pic is one of my truck. From my experience and knowledge the Front end, 69 Bird can work. Now if you are not a fabricator or good welder it may not be for you to ATTEMPT alone. I think the work to install is worth the ride and capability with the engine you are trying to run. You would be dealing with OE parts. WHere are you located? East, Midwest, or out West? Let me know if I can help you anyway.

Hay Donald,

Thanks for the input – Welding is not an issue for me – pretty proficient with both Stick and Mig, 110 and 220 V The problem I have is in my HEAD – for years and years I’ve spend thousand of hours getting everything back to original form. So as a Purist it’s difficult to start hacking away…. seams sacrilegious if you can understand what I am saying. The grand kid is pushing for a street rod – says the others are just NOT COOL…In any case, I was able to cut away the front suspension from the T-Bird yesterday…but only after hours of devote prayer. If your familiar with the T-Bird front end - it’s an entire one piece clip – with these wing like extensions which are weld to the frame / rocker rails. So taking that off was a piece of cake, don’t even need to dismantle the front end, although I did. Hopefully today I will get to the 60 frame….. I’ll post some pics later today or tomorrow of my progress….Thanks for the advice…..nice set of wheels your driving and a great web site…..Thanks Again – I am located in the Northeast,
