And The Mutilations Just Keep Getting Worse
Alright, I've seen enough. This ought to be illegal.

I can honestly say that a few of these "rat rods" that I've seen are pretty cool. Some of the builders "get it". Far out and pieced together, but still safe, groovy, and artistic. They have a theme and they're fun to look at. But then you've got this guy. Chevelle clip, 4 link, crusty lookin' SBC, modern hi-po guages with a SHIFT LIGHT?!?, firewall mounted master cyl., and wide whites with baby moons. This thing doesn't know what it is. It's all over the map. Hail, the cheep-azz plywood bed doesn't even sit parallel to the cab. The best part is that he has the brass to call it "Old School". I can understand why the core HAMBers, hate this stuff. It breaks my heart to think about how many good, restorable trucks are being cut up and scrapped just so some clown can use the cab to build something like this.

Maybe some folks aren't "rich" enough to build a rig that'll satisfy anyone but themself?? Maybe they have plans for the future, but wanted to drive and feel the power?
Not everyone is as fortunate as the next person. I'll bet he's happy to have what minimal hotrod sleeper that he has.
No offense boys, but I think yer bein kinda hard on the dude who ownes it. And I've seen a lot of retro, homebuild rods around. They may be ugly, but they'll kick butt on most anything they come up against.
There was a movie a long while back. The dude took a 55 chevy and ratted it out... ugly as a pig in mud.... built an engine that wouldn't stop producing power... ( at least in the movie...I wasn't impressed...but I digress. He went out, took on anyone, for money. And so on. Anyway... I'd love to have an ugly old sleeper that'd put most to shame.

Each to ther own. I also think we are getting awfully judgemental here. This one is much better than some, at least the floor isn't old highway signs, license plates and mailboxes. (back in the day we sometimes used "old" highway signs for sheetmetal, but we painted them over immediately, lest the local law wanted to know where we "found" them.)
Maybe a tribute to old school, but real old school would have a suicide axle in front of the radiator. That would have taken away the visual appearance that it is about to trip and land on it's nose and made a great deal of improvement IMHO.
I think we need to go out to the garage and work on our own trucks rather than sit around looking for others to criticize.
"Rat rods" are another fad in the annals (or is that *****) of car enthusiasm, same as hearses, vans, high riders, hydraulics, body kits, Hummers etc of the past. Once the look at me toos have saturated the streets people will stop gawking, then someone will come up with a new original approach that generates instant attention and a new fad will be born.
"I could have built a (name the fad), but I decided to have HEY LOOK AT ME! tattooed across my forehead instead."

I don't know, it's like certain kinds of clothes - Don Knotts wearing the polyester leisure suit, or Dangerfield in the plaid jacket or Abbey with the black Frankenstein boots (boy would you guys ever be disappointed if you ran into her in real life and she was wearing a knit sweater, plaid skirt and heels - right?)(OK you wouldn't - bad example but you get the picture)
You'd never do it but on some people it fits!
I'd never build one, but it'd be fun to drive to a Halloween dance or something, or speed throught he bad part of town screaming, once!
