Shock Talk

I'm desperately in need of shocks. Some of you have seen pics from my other posts, you know what I'm talking about.

I'm approaching 60k now and I just don't know what to replace my stockers with.

I have a front add-a-leaf and Dual steering stabilizers. I hump a 700# plow blade around in the winter and it sees some towing throughout the year, nothing over 15k.

What should I buy????

I would recommend either the Bilstein 5100 shocks with the "zinc" coating for better durability in winter conditions or the Rancho RS9000XL adjustable shocks, which have a $100.00 rebate (debit card) thru 8/31/2010.

Bilstein HD shocks are good too. A lot of guys here have put them on and like them. I added them a couple of years ago and they were a big improvement over stock.

im looking for new shocks myself and was leaning towards the rancho RS9000XL because they are adjustable and the deal they have on them right now.....has anyone used the rancho "MY RIDE" with the RS9000XL. I dont wanna buy it unless i hear good things about it.
grec-o-face if you go with the ranchos truckaddons.com have a real good deal on them all 4 of them for 329.95 that's only 82.48 each, that price is unheard of on those shock and there is free shipping plus there is a $100 gift card mail in rebate on them also

Monroe Reflex shocks are the identical same shock as the Rancho 5000 series with a different color paint on the outside. They're less than $160 for an entire set from Rockauto.com,and I'm pretty sure there's a rebate going on right now on those.

I was actually looking at Monroe's but was wandering if they were stiff enough to handle the weight of this truck but anything has to be better than these stock tooth picks I'm driving on now!

I recently installed a set of the Reflexes on our '05 Ex,and have used them in the past on a pair of F150's with great success and long life.. I think they're a good shock-not quite as stiff as a Bilstein, but stiffer than a standard Monroe replacement.

If you like the stock ride then go to the stealership and get stock replacements.

Are you sure? I thought the reflex was a gas charged self adjust valving and the Rancho 5000 was a cellular design.

I meant to type Rancho RSX .
The RSX and the Reflex are the identical same shocks. Dunno about the 5000/9000 series.

What's the difference between the Silver 5100's and the Yellow 5100's? Other than color, of course.
Is the Silver a resistant coating of some sort?
Are they valved differently?

And are they designed specifically for lifted trucks? My truck's stock with an add-a-leaf up front, and will stay that way (no plans to increase ride height).

OK, so I guess the yellow's aren't 5100's. They're just HD's. This right?
