Hi Safe!
I'll put a few links on that I saved from the flatbead discussions. Bob Jones is "the man" when it comes to these.
Thanks Julie, you where ever so helpful again. The flatbed on the blue truck....is that script? I am guessing it is but not sure so just asking. I really like that truck. I am going to get some progress pics up this week. see ya
Here's the one on my 56. I bought it this way. It has a homemade steel frame with a wood floor and side rails. I have since shortened the sides to two boards high. Looks a little better. The flatbed is really handy for general purpose hauling and makes a good parade watching platform.
This 51 F2 in red, currently on ebay has a newer style aluminum diamond plate bed on it. There are a variety of pics from different angles that should help the "what if" process. (I have no association with this truck, just providing the link for info.)
Here's some shots of mine. It's an original Ford flatbed. The stake sides I made from oak from a local (CT) saw mill. The bed wood is Minnesota ash on which I put 6 coats of Helmsman spar urethane. Bed strips are brushed stainless:
Mine had a custom metal bed made for it. Weighed about 4,000#s. It had to be removed to make it home (with the compressor on the back this thing was moving about 9,000#s, I'm curious to see how it will drive with NO weight on it... shouldn't be much different than an F-100 I would think... not that I've driven one of those lol)
Though flatbeds are handy, I just REALLY love the style of a stepside bed, its one of the things I fell in love with with the '56. So I am planning to shorten my wheel width a bit and make a custom stepside bed, should be pretty unique with the duallies.
And some other trucks... even some members here ^_^
Thanks guys, was not expecting this many responses.....and by the way all these are unique but the the red one with the high side boards looks really good. I bet that truck never looked that good new.....so that leads me to another question for those of you who know alot about these trucks. I am 28 so my first memories of a ford trucks was my grandpa had like a 72 model and remember how he used the truck, and i mean abused it really. So I have no idea how they used these 50 model trucks. my question is what was the reason for the high side boards cause you don't really see that on any half ton or ton trucks any more, or not around here. I am sure somebody knows the selling point ford had with that or what purpose it served.
