proper gauge# of wire for power loacks ?
I was having problems with driver side lock switch not unlocking the doors- it would lock though. On another thread I saw other members with same issue and troubleshooting steps. Found a broken green and pink wire inside rubber boot ( I pried it off ) between body and door. Problem is this..
Do I need the exact same gauge of wire ? I have no idea what gauge it is although I assume I can just go tell the parts guy and he'll set me strait ?
Any sugggestion as to using electrical black tape or some other coupler ? It is going to be under pressure and bending given its locale with that rubber boot.
Thanks for reading have a great day,
Doug

large numbers are thinner wires. it is probalby 18 gauge, that is standard cheap wire. if you went to 16 gauge it might help, but would be slightly heavier outer case. I would not just tape, i would solder the joints for best. you could use crimp connecters, but can corrode in a few years. Do not splice inside the boot where it will bend and flex. you need to add several inches of wire and push one splice back into the door frame, and the other end into the door. the part in the boot should be good flexible wire, not a welded or crimp joint.
