I just bought an 00 F250 XLT. The truck has power door locks but I the previous owner say he never had a remote key chain FOB to open the doors. Does anyone know if that was an option in 2000? Doesn't make sense to me.

I know the GEM is different, but I think the VSM is stilling going to be similar to the later models. I believe to get into keyless programming mode, you turn the key on/off 3 times and press the door lock button. If you have keyless entry, then the door locks should cycle and be ready to accept your fobs.

Probably the easiest and most effective option would be to add a remote start/alarm. There are some really nice units available with cool features such as turbo timers, 2 way remotes, Tap sensors to unlock/disarm without keys/remote, ect.

 

I don't think it was an option for the XLT trim level, I believe it was standard.

Get a key fob and try programming it to your truck. The instructions are in your owner's manual in the glove box.

Fobs are cheap on eBay, around ten bucks.

On an XLT, it is a good chance it doesn't have keyless remote. Power locks were standard on the XLT, keyless remotes were not.

To test it, find or download your owners manual. Use the procedure for programming new key FOB's. If the locks don't respond when the manual says they should, then you don't have that option.

You can also get a build sheet for your truck from Ford. I believe the option was called Advanced Security System which included keyless entry.

 

I have a 1999 XLT and it came with the fobs. It does have a Ford factory add on "box" under the dash. The install and operating instructions were in the glove box when I bought the truck. You can tell the box was added into the factory harness, probably at the dealer. The fobs are factory also.

I would really like to see a picture of this with instructions if possible. I dont have a FOB for my 2000.
