Whats going on??

Okay first off i drive a 1981 ford f-100 pickup with a C6 tranny.

Whats happening, (hasn't done this in the year of owning it until now), is that when i push the accelerator pedal it will shift until i get to a certain gear. *im hitting 45 when it does it* An it wont shift on its own. It just whines higher and doesnt want to speed up or shift. BUT i can manually shift it with my foot by dropping the pedal and going back at it.

So i was curious why its doing this, and what i can do to fix it!! Thank yall!!

Check that the kickdown rod is properly connected and adjusted. Check that the vacuum pipe is connected to the trans and is sound.

Lazy what do you mean to check if the kickdown rod is properly adjusted? I recently lost the clip that holds in on the bar, so i afro-engineer'd it with some wire. Would this be causing it to that?

Also where can i find this vacum pipe that goes to the trans?

Thanks alot!!

If you have the kickdown connected and the rod working you should be OK.
As for the vacuum there should be a small vacuum pipe going from the engine manifold down to a vacuum modulator on the rear of the transmission. Usually it is a steel pipe with rubber connectors at each end. Sometimes the rubber pipe can split or crack and so needs replaced.
Get under the truck and check the condition of the pipe (small pipe like a windshield washer pipe). Pull it off the modulator and look for signs of transmission fluid in it. If there are signs then you will need to replace the modulator.
However you need vacuum at that pipe. With engine at idle you should be able to feel vacuum at it with your finger.
