Is the manifold warping, bolts breaking or just leaking at the junction of the head and manifold?

it leaks (very irritating) at the rear of the manifold (cyl #4). Ford does not sell a gasket for this and their TBS says NOT to use a gasket here but i do not understand why Ford would do this.

i have used aftermarket gaskets 2x and the last time i used a Remflex gasket supposedly made to fix this problem..it leaked in 200 miles. the bolts have not broken. should i try it without a gasket???

Replace the exhaust manifold.

Ford did not use exhaust manifold gaskets with any 460 engine, regardless of what year the engine was or what vehicle it was installed in.

i replaced LHS manifold and then sheared a new bolt within 2000 mi. i am fixing that now. Thinking about EITHER stainless bolts with copper gasket or thick flange headers. You have any other ideas?

Is your cat plugged and maybe creating to much back pressure? I have a 94 and I cant keep the bolts in maybe need to loctite them.

1983 pre cat. stock exhaust. i read that on this engine's early emisions system (1 air pump, egr, thermactor) that the unburned gasses introduced into the exhaust manifold raised manifold temps too high. this causes warp which shears bolts.

FORD dealer in denver charges $20 per bolt.......NAPA has bolt kit for $15 but bolts are not stainless. i used this kit and it did not help. my bolts are working loose. one reply said using gasket will make bolts come loose.

FTE has Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsors that give discounts off the actual Ford MSRP to members.

Why pay MSRP...or worse? Many dealers JACK UP the prices today.

Y2KFORDPARTS.COM = MILLENNIUM FORD in Seattle WA

SILVERSTATEFORDPARTS.COM = GAUDIN FORD in Las Vegas NV.

btw: You have one hour to edit your posts, so you do not have to type continous new posts to add info.
