Really enjoyed looking at those pictures, Rusty. Most of the traffic in the photos was very light...sign of the times.

I recall as a young boy being driven on fairly recently constructed interstates in Missouri and Kansas...even as a 6 year old...having a ride in a 1954 Chevy...I still vividly recall this new adventure on the just introduced super slabs.

Thank you for posting them...I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy seeing the way it was...

Tremendous pictures, lot's of history there. I like the traffic jam picture with the multitude of what are now 'collectibles' in the jam. I like that little Iseta car...reminds me of an old fashioned SMART car.

The reasion for that traffic jam is just off the side of the photo behind the taker of the photo. The freeway basically ended and went to a regular 4 lane road.

The other photo of the same highway in 1968 how ever was after the highway was completed in the area but there was an accident or something. You can see the overpass is clear.

 

Looks like the US 101 today heading into LA. Been there done that.
