Choosing 08,09 or 2010 models
Just sold my 2005 F250 SD diesel, but now having sellers regret, want to purchase same truck, in either the 08 09 or 2010 models. I only know about MY 05 and its history with turbo problems and warped heads etc (although mine never had a problem, sold it at 45k miles).
What are the pros and cons of the mentioned year models? I have the abliity to purchase new, or used Ford F250 SD diesel crew cab short bed, Lariat edition.
Thanks
Matty

I would go for a 09 model. That was maybe you can get the 3.73 rear end. So far there have not been near the problems as the 6.0. Biggest issue has been the radiator failures which I believe to have been cured. And the DPF. New emissions components. Alot of the 08 job 1 and 2's some of the job 3 had defective ones from the start.
That seems to me to be the biggest of issues besides the MPG's. They are down considerable amount due to the EPA. Once you learn how to drive the truck you can get better at that issue too.

You will get a better deal on an 08. My 08 has been excellent. Just try and get a job 3 if you end up with an 08. The 08-2010 models are virtually unchanged. More options on the 2009, and 2010's. Like SYNC, paint options, Cabela's edition, ash tray delete, better nav system. A few others, but that's about it. Now the 2011's are quite a bit different. Very different actually.

each is called a (build) Job, and they are talked about with their number.
Most (but not all) the changes between production runs are feedback from post sales service events.. they try to decide what can be done before shipment, so they don't have to do it at higher cost later. sometimes there are features which didn't make production initially, and sometimes there are things that they THOUGHT customer might order, and oops, they ALL do.. so its better to make it a standard work process vs an optional step. (might happen at a different time on the build line)
anyhow.. they are suggesting you want one of the later build runs, where they have learned from customer feedback (radiators, EGR valves...firmware on DPF regen)..
mine is a job 1, built 4/07. (radiator and EGR replaced in service)

You're right 69CJ! Trucks built in 2010 will be 2011 models!
Same as the 2007 MY Super Duties. Was illegal to build a highway diesel engine without having a DPF and meeting the EPA 2007 emissions regulations. Which the 6.0 did NOT do. That didn't stop Ford from making lots of them at the end of 2006 and calling it the 2007 model year. Come the start of 2007, all they made were 2008 models!
Aw, crap. Senix beat me to it!

The 6.4 V8 will be meeting the 2010 standards and do so without DEF/Urea, just not in Fords.
Ford paid International off to end the engine supply contract early and is going with their own engine which uses DEF/urea for the 2010 standards.
