Warn hubs wont fit my truck?
Bought a set of Warn hubs because one of mine is shot. Go to put the warns on and they dont go on far enough to get the lock ring on. They bottom out on the back of the splines and the inner part is flush with the end of the shaft. Warn online and all the parts stores books said they were the right hubs but there is no way they would fit. Superwinch is what came off it. They ordered new superwinch ones and judging by the picture they are the shorter ones like I need. I would much much rather have some good warns on there but cant find the right ones. Have any of you experianced this? O ya the truck is a 96 1/2 ton

Ya maybe, warn shows them as f150- f100 59-96 all the same. Its hard to describe without pics but the inner part of the hub, the piece that slips onto the drive axel. It was the exact same lenght as the entire splined portion of the axel, wich is about 1/4 inch too much. but it seems strange that the inner and outer splines slide right into place. Wouldnt a heavier duty truck have larger diameter axels/hubs? Stumped me and the parts store, just hope the ons they ordered turn out to be right. That will at least buy me to time to find the corect warns.

You may have to reach behind the steering knuckle and pull the axle shaft out to install the snap ring. It is common for them to slide back as the lock out is pushed into the hub.
If they gave you the wrong one, a D50 for a D44 for example you'd know it, the D50 is much to large for the D44 hub and the D44 lockout would swim in the D50 hub.
If you had manual hubs to start with your wheel bearing nuts should be correct, if you can't get the lockout in fully I would suspect that as the cause. Non compatible type wheel bearing nuts for the lockout Ie; Superwinch verses Warn, IIRC they are the same in that respect though?

DanR1 is most likely correct. The axle shaft has a bit of play in it. So do as he says, and push it out from behind, then stick a screwdriver between the inner shaft and the u-joint, to hold it in place while you put the c-clip on. Don't forget to remove the screwdriver right after you get the c-clip on. trust me on that one lol.

Thanks for the tips, but moving the shaft out wouldnt help me. The warn hubs just ran out of spline. Its like the inner piece of them was too wide. The inner piece was the same length as the entire splined section where as the old hub that came off the inner piece measured roughly 1/4 inch shorter than the splines.

Also should mention the outside part of the locker, the big part that slids into the hub itself. It would be sticking out from flush by just a tad and it needed to be inside the hub by at least a little ways to get the retainer ring on and allow the cover to slip in. Something definintly seems strange, and danr1 I am sure it had manual hubs from factory, prty sure the converted ones have an exta piece or two and only bolt on with three big bolts, mine still have the 6 little bolts. And Im sure I got it all out as well just the one big ring and one little ring is all you have to remove, and it all pops out. Find out tm in the afternoon if the superwinch ones they ordered fit.

lol ya I could see those pieces and without the paper telling me they need to go I figured they were there for some purpose. They were behind the hub and all so figured they were not to be messed with for the hubs. What I found out to is the other brands, superwinch, mile marker, ect are all made to work without removing those. That leaves them like stock and they are tiny compared to these warns. Much more surface area all the way around with these. Just glad I got working 4x4 now and dependable hubs. Thanks to all that gave input, love these forums. O ya and how do you put pic in your message thread on here? My other forums there is an atachment button in the compose section, cant figure out how to do it on here.

thanks so much for following up on the solution. I borrowed a hub from a donor truck and it wouldn't fit my 97. Pulling my hair out with parts guys with hubs not fitting ! No problems with running hub without c clip and the three washers ?!! one thing to note is my original hubs have 3 screws wearas most have 6 screws....
