I drove about 500 miles over the last day pulling my RV from Missouri to New Mexico when it started over heating. The terrain was hilly but not nearly as bad as it was a week ago when I was driving from NC into TN. My check engine light (wrench) came on and my coolant temp gauge immediately shot from "Normal" range to "Hot". I immediately pulled over and shut it off. I immediately turned the key on and my temp gauge was back to "Normal". I was in the middle of BFE in New Mexico so I had to get to the closest town. It happened four more times. My coolant is at the "Cold Fill Line" and it isn't leaking anything. Any ideas? I plan to drive it into the Ford dealer that is 3.9 miles away tomorrow. I need to get to CA quick.
Do you have a new 16 psi coolant cap ?6.4 needs 16 psi in the coolant system else the coolant will boil.AND , do not drive it....get it towed. If you have a cooling problem and you operate the 6.4 while itís over heating ....you could blow head gasket and or crack the heads / block.DITTO on putting a temp gun on it ....Is there more to the story??? ( new tuner running race tune , and DPF is still installed, etc)Whatís your mileage like right now. Clogged cat/ dpf will elevator temps quick.Again, do not drive an over heater ng 6.4, the engine is not forgiving.
