Where Do I Find Sound-Deadening Material?

I am replacing my carpeting this weekend. In earlier posts I have read where people raved about a stick-on sound-deadening material that goes underneth the carpeting. I beleave it might have been called Dynamat? I tried Kragen and Autozone, but no luck. Where can I buy this stuff? Any idea on what the cost per square foot is? I am trying to quiet down the interior noise so that I can hear the stereo without blaring it. Thanks, Jag

Ebay.. I used RattleTrap.. (like here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/100-8...=p4506.c0.m245)

that plus the insulation, plus the jute, plus the carpet makes it really quiet.

only other place you MIGHT find it (expensive) locally is like an auto electronics store.
here in Austin that is Custom Sounds.

and I used every square inch of 100sq ft. floors, walls, firewall, roof, door interiors. cab back had full cover, plus some in between the ribs.

Some radio installation shops have it. Kind of expensive. I used Frost King under the floor of my 55. Picked up the idea from Corvette Forum.
Can get it at Home Depot or Lowes. Is fiberglass sandwiched between foil. Comes in a roll and is used to wrap hot water heaters. Good for heat & sound.

Thanks guys. I have tried the Home Depot route. They sold me the bubble wrap with foil on both sides. This worked OK for the heat but didn't deem to do much for the sound though. I will look on Ebay. "Sorry Honey, the wrap isn't here yet, so I'l just have to watch the football games instead." Jag

The plastic roller is kinda cheesy and breaks U may want to ask them for a wood roler, whoever you get your kit from

I've got 4 layers, so can't really tell.. the RattleTrap is not for heat.. its for vibration, noise.

on top of that is a layer of double foil backed cell insulation,
on top of that is the jute
and then the carpet
and floor mats for driver/passenger areas...

I can't feel any heat on the floor or firewall.

doors are not oil can sounding anymore.

advertised insulation

Dynamat and Zilamat advertise that they heat insulators, I have just two layers in the mustang
1 zila mat
2 carpet
3 I guess you count floor mats?
I never drove the stang before so I cant tell the difference, but I dont feel any heat through the floor,

Zila mat is 50 mil and can withstand 400 degrees?

Hope that helps Ryan

I used a product called B-quiet. Found it on the web. It has the same specs as Dynamat but at about half the price. I put it over allof my metal interior surfaces then over that I put in a layer of 3.8" mylar backed insulation that can be found at auto parts stores. The difference was incredible. The car went from noisy and loud to pleasant to drive.

Two or three years ago Fatfenders (Dewayne) found a product at Home Depot or Lowes that they use to repair gutter leaks. It is a sticky back black material and works pretty well for sound absorption and is economical compared to the high end stuff. I found some in the gutter/roofing department but can't recall the name. As I recall it came in rolls of 6-8" width. It would be applied first to a clean surface, then the insulation material on top.

I used scrap Typar and Barricade ice/water shield, 2 layers. Works great...XL truck with just rubber on the floor really quieted down. Not sure if it helps with heat, never was a problem and still isn't.

Dynamat Extreme. Did inside of the cab and the door inspection panels and a spot behind each speaker ( i have speakers in the doors ). Have carpet from mid fiftys and plastic headliner and back panel ( they are black for now ). Truck is quite and seems very comfortable with out the a/c on and down right cold with it on. Not a cheap date ( about $500.00 ) but I like it. I think you can buy it from summit and jeg's or your local radio installation shop. I bought mine from Detroit Engineering when they were in this area.
