I bet if we took a poll you would find out most of us have the rust start on the drivers side. That sees the most salt when driving and it gets forced in everywhere. While I agree there are some issues of cheapness Ford could address, all the manufacturers suffer from rust issues.

I just sold a 95 because of rust and I am seeing the same pattern in my 01.

But on the positive side, there is only one gas tank.... and it's plastic.

Why does Ford seem to be worse than the others when it comes to rust??

i also have a rust problem that i have been dealing with on my 2000 ex spent 3 days cleaning up the under side and priming and painting where you cant even see, now the left rear wheel well is bubbling and i cant get at the inner area thats rustng so gotta cut it out and weld in a new piece then im getting some type of low profile flares, what really sucks is my 97 gmc plow truck has really no rust on the body panels and i plow alot with it what gives

Service Manager said he would call a Ford Rep after I continued to complain and remind them I was a loyal customer. With that said Ford denied my claim, so I no longer take my truck to that dealer and do most routine maintance myself. I ended up getting my truck repaired at a local body shop. They had to replace the L/R fender and repaint. Truck looks great again, even that bodyshop owner said it was weird how the left rear driver side fender rusted. I personally think this is a Ford issue just like the oil pans that are rusting. I really enjoy my truck but disapointed Ford will not stand behind issues such as this. I am also noticing a rust problem lower driver side door.

Thanks for reminding me. I need to cleanup the pan also. I already use POR but it must not have been perfectly clean as it is pealing off.

I have spots starting too, above the rear wheelwells on the bed, under the drivers and passender side cab, and a few spots hear and there, trying to nip it as fast as I can. I had spots on my oil pan that I sanded and patched up but their coming back, in other spots too, stinks. I really need to take care of the oil pan, big problems right there if that gets out of hand..

When my rear wheel arches started to rust, I cut the rust out, the used gorilla hair and covered with flares. They are possibly the dumbest design I have ever seen. The two pieces have this foamy stuff sandwiched between them, and no weep holes. So, when water inevitably gets in there, it gets soaked up by the foamy stuff like a sponge, and is held right up against the inside of the sheet metal. . I might do the line-x rockers, I think it would look cool anyway.

I have the same rust problem, with an added bonus. I was putting fuel in my truck the other day, and noticed fuel dripping. My filler pipe has rusted out....
Anybody replace theirs? Where can I get one?

Thanks, and sorry for the hijack.
