Rear view mirror

I found a distributor of Gentex products so Im going to install the factory monitor mirror / 3rd brake light camera. In looking at our Expy the mirror has a wire plugged into the back of it. Im assuming this wire is for the auto headlights??? I know the Gentex monitor mirror also has a wire that plugs into it. However there is also a plastic box about 2"x2" and 3/4" thick behind the mirror. At first I thought this box was for the satelite radio but there is an antenna for that on the roof. Does anyone know what this plastic box is for?

wires to the mirror itself are for the Camera Monitor (if installed) and the auto-dim power wire

wires to that little black box are for the compass

there is a little black sensor on the dash. that is the Auto Lights sensor.

So is my truck already prewired for the camera? I didn't think it was available until '08. I guess I could always take off the 3rd brake light and see if the is a connection for the camera there.

The camera is not in the 3rd brakelight. it is over the lic plate where the lights for the plate are.

I didn't realize that. The Gentex distributor has one that replaces your 3rd brake light. The mirror/ monitor comes with a 6 ft cable that runs down the pilar to under the dash and a 20ft cable the runs back to the camera. Gentex is the company that is contracted with ford for their factory system.

3rd brake light would be very odd. . .your image would be very wide unless it has an abnormal lens.

I really want to add a camera to my 07 as well and looked at the gentex cameras, but was not sure of the actual camera route. Does gentex sell a kit? What is the price range?

I found this site that carries Gentex equipment, there are other site out there though. They have the mirror/monitor like the one that comes from the factory. This mirror has a 2.4" display for the monitor. I believe there is a bigger one available, I think it has a 3.5" monitor. They also carry the 3rd brake light with the camera built in (apparently the factory system is over your license plate, next to the light.) The mirror comes with a 6ft wire that runs down under your dash and a 20ft wire the you would have to snake through your head liner to the back of the truck.
