Stock? Little and None.

The factory ratings are 185hp and 270 ft lbs TQ but having owned several of these I don't believe it even made that much.

Memory says 200hp for the 351 and 230hp for the 460. But hp isnt important in these heavy trucks. What is important is low speed torque!! And gearing!!

The 5.0 in these heavy trucks needs a 4.10 gear in the rear axle. With short tires-- 30inch tall or shorter-that combination really wakes up the little 5.0-believe me!! Especially if this combination has a manual transmission in a "light" SWB--just what I have as a matter of fact!!!

Too many 3.08 geared 5.0s running 33 inch tires-gives the poor 302/5.0 a bad name!:

LOL, so true. My 88 5.0 has 31 x 10.50 x 15R tires and I believe it has the 3.08 gears. Weak sauce.

I thought my 3.55-geared, 29"-tired 302 was pretty lame. It had some get-up, but not with any sort of a load or trailer behind it, and it was one of those fix-or-repair-daily engines.

oddly enough my 302 has 3.55 gears and stock sized tires. i drove my grandpas 09 f150 xl(4.6L 2V 4spd not sure on rear end gearing), and when i floored it in his truck, it didnt seem any faster at all than my 302, granted it's the lowest output motor of the new bunch and I'm sure the 3V would be faster. Also, moving to an F150 302/3.55s from a ranger 2.3L/3.03 made the 302 seem like a jet engine at first

I have a stock 302 in my 89 f150, has a 5 speed and 3.08 rear end. That thing will smoke the tires on command, and when I was young I used to race it all over, and even win a few! Its by no means the fastest thing out there, but it still did pretty good. Last time I checked it it was getting a solid 17 mpg in the winter.

Now heres the catch. I dont tow much if at all with it, and the only crap i put in the box now is light loads going to the dump.

I couldnt be happier with my 302 (have had it since 1998!)
