help with ignition kill switch setup issues

Ok the previous owner of this truck somehow made it so you have to tilt the steering wheel down to engage the power to everything like the guages and fuel pump etc. Just like if you were turn the key to the final position before starting. Anyway this is a good anti theft thing since not many people would try to tilt the wheel down to figure out how to start it but it is wearing out my tilt steering having to do that every time i start the truck plus it is annoying. How do I set it up so I can bypass this. Even if I have to rig up a switch or something to control that or can i make it like stock where it does that just when you turn the key. Here is a video of what I am talking about:

The PO didn't rig nothing up, it has a screwed up ignition switch, and a screwed up ignition actuator rod.

If you replace both those parts it will start again like a normal pick up.

There is a slim chance they both just need readjusted.

hhmm I see. When the covers are on and I cant just pull that rod I have to turn the key all the way, then tilt the steering wheel down and everything lights up, then use the push button start to start it. Once its started I can tilt the steering wheel back up and drive off.

Tilting the wheel down is just moving the rod far enough to turn the ignition on, simply turning the key can't move it far enough any more.

The ignition switch itself might still be good, might be the rod just can't move it far enough to engage the starter in its present condition.

Yea the PO put a good spin on a problem, made it sound like a selling point. Does the term "hook line and sinker" mean anything to ya? LOL!

You need to pull the steering wheel and yea you need to buy, rent or make a puller to get it off.

You can make one out of any piece of suitable flat or angle stock ya got laying around and a couple of appropriate size/length bolts, two bolt that will thread into the holes in the hub. Not real hard to pull one off but needs to be pulled straight off, in other words doesn't take much of a puller to do it.

Thank you for the help Danr1 I appreciate it. Ya sounds like the PO tricked me on that one. Anyway it seems like a simple design so im just gonna make one tomorrow to pull the steering wheel so i can get a good look at where this ignition rod connect to see whats wrong. Thanks again
