I have no intentions of submerging into any water around Jim Creek, way too much glacial silt. Just general waterproofing due to road spray in the engine compartment.
Looking good. I may follow your lead with an electric fuel pump as well.
Thanks BossFan, it's been good to work on her a little bit lately.
Somebody convinced me to work on my 3G Alternator swap..... nutter3 shall remain nameless .
As usual with the rest truck, nothing goes as planned . I was able to re-clock the case without much trouble, but everything else seems to be a struggle.
I did not want to use a nut and bolt for the upper adjustment because holding bolt, putting tension on the alternator and tightening the nut is just not fun, so I tapped the hole with threads.
The pulley hit the case and the washer I bought as a spacer was pretty thick and did not allow much threads on the pulley nut to engage. So I split the case again and sanded down the face of the front case a little and ground the back edge of the pulley a little. The combination of the two gave me enough clearance for the pulley.
I did another test fit in the truck and the lower mount holds the alternator back a bit from the adjustment arm. I have a couple spacers for the lower mount, but have not installed them yet to see how bad it throws the belt alignment off.
Tomorrow I'll do a quick test fit and see where we are at, but with the temps in the single digits, I probably wont work on it much. I'll head up to the shop and work on my trailer build.
Here is the grinding work on the pulley. It looks much rougher than it is.
Here is where I sanded down the front of the alternator face a little.
Here is the threaded hole.
Here is the nub ground down.
Not much progress and still a bunch of wiring to do, but it's a start.
Hey nutter, thanks for the kick in the pants, I needed it...
Well, I spent a bit of time out in the cold and finally got the power steering pump bracket shimmed out and it looks acceptable, but the alternator still needs a little work. Unfortunately, I think I have to pull the fan back off to get to the bolts for the lower alternator bracket.
It was either jump on the 3G Wagon or pony up the extra cash for a higher output alternator because I will end up needing it.
It'll all be fine once I get it figured out, but it's just a pain cause it's a bit chilly outside. That and I'd really like to actually drive this thing sooner than later.
AK- Sorry if I made more work for ya! I should be the last person encouraging anyone to do any thing. I have more uninstalled parts and upgrades and projects that I know what to do with. I keep telling myself I'll have more time someday.
i run them same accessories, how does a higher amp alternator help? are you sticking to a single batttery? capacity is what you need and you get that with duals.
