I tried searching the threads, but too many related ones came up, so here we go..
I bought my truck a few weeks ago.. please read and give your opinion, thanks!
Yesterday I noticed my transmission having difficulty with gears at 40-60 k/h. Today it wouldn't go into reverse at first and when I did get out onto the highway it would rev way up and then hit the gear it was changing to. As I was arriving at my destination the OD off light came on and I got a transmission malfunction warning.
Before I hit the road again I checked the fluid, the engine was still warm, I put it in N and checked it.. it was at the low end of the range on the dip stick.
Then again when I left my destination it would not reverse, I had to put it in R and rev it up to get it to go.. it grabbed and spun the wheels a bit.
When I got home I called my dealer since I have the extended coverage plan. I told them to come tow it since it was driving in 3rd gear at 4000rpm on the highway home.. seems like a bad thing to me
I hope it wasn't just low fluids, but I don't have the right type of fluid at my garage to check.. the tow truck just took her away.. gulp.

sounds like the trans ate itself. I just replaced mine 2 weeks ago... no extended warranty... and it cost me $3400. Be thankful that you have the extended service plan, because the transmissions for these things are not cheap.
It seems that when they fail, they fail unexpectedly.... like mine. Was fine, then wasn't. OD let go in the trans and sent shrapnel throughout... so wasn't any hope of saving it.
I really hope it isn't that serious. But if so, I hope Ford comes through and foots the bill in full due to the extended plan.
Sorry to hear about your transmission.
This is a bad start for me, I have never been a ford guy and I don't want to dislike the truck I just bought.. ugh.
My Dakota is 13 years old and the transmission and engine haven't given me a single problem.. so this bites.
Sorry about my b****in and complaining, I will update when I get the verdict today.
It is possible they will not cover it because it has a 6" BDS suspension lift.. it was installed by the dealership when it was new, but none the less, if they can blame it they will.. I have read the horror stories.
It is good to have forum people to talk to since it is too embarrassing to talk to friends about how my new truck I have been showing off is broke.
I found a trans [rebuilt] but with serious warranty 1 year plus all kinds of other stuff I asked around heard alot good nothing bad .2006 4wd $1500.00 plus your core shipping You just have to look around the was the first place I looked .
Good news folks! It sounds like it is going to be 100% covered. They are going to put a rebuilt tranny in her this week.
The guy I have been talking to at the dealer said they asked for pictures and no one came out to look at the parts. He said that was the first time he ever did it that way.
I am hoping to make it in on tuesday and check things out.. should be back to me by thursday.
Yeep just had the tranny changed on a last week. Ran perfect then wham OD is gone and zero reverse and it would freespin a lot when givin it gas. Got a used tranny with one year warranty for 950 and installed for 800 so 1750 and we were back on the road. Sorry to hear about it. Its a shame.
