Unhappy Siren sound coming from engine compartment

I was driving my 6.0 excursion the other day and the pipe wich cools the turbo down blew off and the engine over heated. It sounded as if a tire blew. We re-attached the pipe, filled the radiator and started it. When we began to drive there was a siren sound coming from the engine. The sound winds down when I let off the pedal and can not be heard at idle. Any suggestions as to what the sound could be? I was thinking a leak in the turbo hoses or a bad turbo bearing.

I would guess there is a hole iny the rubber hose . turbo bearings don't whistle they have a grinding scream. at least the ones I have incountered.. You should be able to spot this pretty easy or at least feel the air rushing out.

The two most common siren sounds are from the Degas/overflow bottle cap or a leaking/split/cracked turbo hose. If you don't find a leak in any of the rubber turbo hoses then check the flex joints of the y-pipe that feed exhaust into the turbo from the exhaust manifolds. They are very prone to cracking and it's sometimes very hard to see. Look for exhaust leaks to point you to the offending area.

Sounds like you have a split in the hose as mentioned. First question is why the hose blew off? Check for codes as the turbo may have over boosted or the hose was so deteriorated that it let go.

Thanks for the quick reply guys! I'm getting ready to go bowhunting and this has put a damper in my plans. I will check the hoses and see if I can detect a leak. I will get back with you later. Thanks again and this site rocks!

ajeffrey hasn't posted here since this thread (Sept, 2009).

Have you investigated what flamebuster, npccpartsman, and Maxium4x4 suggested?
