I think the vacuum pump is going out because the brake light comes on every once in a while and is now staying on for a while, the brakes feel like their not grabbing like they should, just had brake job done to it, and the holes on the pump are a bit oily is this a good indication the pump is going out. The truck has 220,000 miles and climbing fast. and where is the best place to get a replacement pump and how much of chore is it to replace it
I've never had one go out on me but from what I've read on here it sounds like yours is going out. Is the brake pedal getting stiffer where you are having to push harder to get your braking effort?
The brake pedal is getting to the point where you almost have to stand on it to get them to engage, kinda thinking it is going to go out when i am traveling in the left lane on the interstate where i spend most of my time and some one going slower doesn't get the point to move over despite the massive homemade front bumper and the tow mirriors, makes the truck look dam scary
My brakes acted the same so I changed the vacuum pump and the problem went away. I got my pump 4 months ago at Autozone with a 1 year warranty. It was a reconditioned pump and now its acting up so I need to replace it before the warranty is up. You will need to rent their pulley puller since the replacement pump has no pulley. I think I paid $120 after core charge for mine.
Be sure you check that new pump before you install it, many new/remanufactured units come with little to no lube in side them and don't last long after installation!!
Mine just went out. change it if you think it may be going out, which it sounds like it is... I just about had a bad accident when mine suddenly went south. The pedal feels like a rock and you have to stand on it to slow down at all. Not a good feeling.
Got mine from NAPA for 160 ish and a twenty some od core refund. but my pulley was also bad , that's another 40 bucks or so from the dealership.
ALSO be sure to put your bolts in BEFORE you press on the new pulley.
Thanks for the replies, trying to get a list of repairs going for the next vacation from college, does anyone know of a decent aftermarket rim or just some replacement hubcaps down to one now, have kept loosing them over time, or i could just paint the rims black along with the hubs

i may have 4 for you. When i bought my truck it has the hub caps. I put new rims and tires on and I believe the old rims and hubcaps are in one of my barns.
I'll check and see. if I have them, pay freight and they are yours.
if your vacuum pump is going out or gone your heater/aircinditioner will stay on defrost.
I put an autozone new pump on mine3 years ago, over 100,000 miles on it no problem. most of the time thier fuller won't fit, if it doesn't just drill 2 holes in the pullet right next to the center hub and use a 2 arm puller on the back side of the hub.
